Is there any other oos students who look at UMD's costs and cringe? Because I do.

I'm an above average student for my area, but I'm at the lower end of UMD (29 ACT, 1820 SAT, 3.94 GPA, great extracurriculars, average essays). I was admitted to the ETE scholars program, so I was hoping that would somehow mean I could receive more aid (wishful thinking, I know). I checked my aid status to find out I will only receive 2k from the president's scholarship, and from reading the posts on here I now feel completely inadequate :( The FAFSA expects my family to pay 30k per year for UMD which is crazy high, and they is no way my family can afford it.

How the heck are average oos students thinking about paying for UMD? I don't want to go 60k in debt :/

As far as I understand it, the financial aid page is updated as scholarships are finalized and sent out. That is, your page might be updated in the coming week or so with more scholarships! Keep your spirits up!

I haven’t received my aid package yet and I see no scholarship in my portal which worries me. My EFC is $0 and im OOS so I will definitely be needing some serious aid. What major are you? If you are engineering or computer science, there are some great internship opportunities near UMD that will help pay back a lot of the cost

@puckhound95 I really hope you get lots of money! You need it way more than I do! I’m sure they’ll get you all you need! I’m an environmental science and policy major, and I applied for college of agriculture scholarships. Hopefully they’ll give me some!

I expect to receive at least a little merit based off my stats and the fact im in scholars, but I basically need about $20k-$25k in grants. I can make up the rest in working internships and pay a little back after I graduate. As an enviro major, you can probably find some internships with recycling plants, public works, local governments, or maybe even private firms. It helps you get an income and work experience

My package is online now UMD got the price down to 32k by offering me 8k in loans, but at least I for 2k in work study. I got no grants!! Looks like I won’t be attending
