OOS Greek Life

I just took a tour at Auburn and I had a great time. It’s pretty likely that I’ll attend, but I do have a few questions about the social scene. It seems that joining a sorority is a good way to meet friends on campus and coming from out of state I won’t know anyone. I was wondering how tough the sorority recruiting is and what my chances would be of getting into one. Also how important are rec letters and how do I go about getting them? Thanks for any help!

sororitygirl101 dot com, also thesororitylife dot com and for parents, sororityparents.com Also have your mom post on her Facebook page that you are going through recruitment at Auburn. Make yourself up a resume. Include your full name, nickname, address, e-mail, education, grades, any scholarships, list honors and awards, list extracurricular activities, volunteer work. Brag! This is the place to do it. You need to add your parents’ names, and if your mother, sister, or grandmothers were in sororities and, if so, which sorority and what school (these are your legacy sororities). Add a copy of your final transcript (unofficial is OK), and a flattering, clear picture such as your senior pic or you in everyday clothes. This is your “packet.” Make up a bunch of them, and when a sorority alum offers to write you a recommendation, hand her this packet. It will give her everything she needs to write your rec.
If you are super energetic, look up the Auburn sorority addresses and add an addressed, stamped envelope for the alum to use to mail your rec to the sorority at Auburn.
You need at least ONE rec per sorority, but we recommend that you get at least two because the first person may postpone, forget, or lose your material.
Good luck!

What about fraternity recruitment for out of state guys? Someone told my son that bids are starting to go out already??? Not sure what he should be doing at this point. Any insight would be great.

I’m with @ahsmuoh and would also like to know more about fraternity rush process. Attending Camp War Eagle in early June. So maybe we will learn more then.

There is a formal fraternity recruitment, but AFAIK, most rushing is done during the summer. Guys are invited to parties and often given bids right away. Best thing is to e-mail various fraternities, tell them you’re interested, and give them your contact info.
