OOS Scholarships?

I’m applying to UGA, Minnesota, and Rutgers.

I’m not that worried about getting in but worried about the money aspect. Would applying from OOS hinder my chances at scholarships? Since wouldn’t these state schools want to give the best scholarships to in staters and thus get more money out of OOS students?

Public schools walk a fine line. On one hand, they have a obligation to service the students in their state. They
also, as any school does, want to matriculate the brightest applicants possible.

There are some scholarships that are going to be limited to state residents because the donors want it that way. Some may even be limited to specific high school graduates. For all scholarships, having strong grades and test scores is a must.

For exmaple, follow this link for U of M scholarships. Yes, many are given to MN residents, but many are not:

Federal assistance like work study or subsidized loans are independent of where you apply provided you demonstrate need.

Wht not apply to private universities?

@mitchklong Thanks for the info!
@GMTplus7 I am applying to a few privates including Baylor, Emory, Case Western, and Tulane.

UMN-TC does offer great merit aids to OOS students if you have great stat. They offered several scholarships to my D with a total ~$75k for 4 years. If you look at the subforum for UMN-TC, it is not uncommon for OOS students with high stat like NMF.

UGA relies on HOPE for merit for its instate students. Don’t think they offer much merit for OOS.

For Rutgers 0-6 Pharm program, is it harder to get in OOS? I heard a lot of the decision is based on test scores and GPA. Also, would it help if I applied EA?

Stats:
ACT: (first time) 32, (second time) 33, (superscore - although I don’t think Rutgers superscores the ACT) 34
GPA: 3.92
Rank: N/A but asked counselor and top 10%
Type of school: public HS, class of 500
State: MO

I would guess that Rutgers 6 yr Pharm program does have an instate bias…often publics do for programs like that.

I doubt that you would get much/any merit. Any merit you might get would likely only be for 2 years.

Why aren’t you applying instate for Pharm? Are there any 6 year programs in your state?

how much will your family pay each year?

@mom2collegekids I’m also applying to STLCOP and UMKC’s 6 year pharm. Although I really want to go out of state, I don’t think the finances would make it possible.
