OOS'er - is it worth it?

My college counselor added UGA to my list. I go to a private school outside of Boston, GPA is 3.66 weighted, and SATs are 1970 (CR:620 M:670 W:680)

Can someone tell me how hard it is to get into UGA from out of state? I'm just wondering if I should keep it on my list and maybe visit campus... if it's going to be too much of a reach to get in then I don't think I'll waste my time.

I think you have potential, so don't give up on UGA. You have a good chance of getting into UGA (in my opinion). After all, I got in, and that is saying something. ;)

You should get in without too much trouble.

I would visit UGA before you apply if you can. I go to school here, but before I decided, I visited a university in Boston that I was accepted to. In the end, I decided to stay here, but it was really helpful for me to visit and guage both environments. I think you have a good shot of getting into UGA, and being OOS helps because UGA is constantly trying to diversify campus with students from around the country.

Oh wow... Yeah I always thought they tried to keep it in-state but I guess I'll definitely look further into it now if I actually have a shot. I'll just have to see how I'd fit in there but thanks for your replies.

As far as I know, it's not so much that UGA tries to keep it in-state as the HOPE makes UGA EXTREMELY attractive to in-state kids, so that many people apply.

You should be fine to get in. Might make the Honors program, too.

You should have a good shot of getting in...honors program may be a reach though (freshman year admission is way easier though).

I actually have a friend that came from Boston, but ended up transferring back because of the difference between "northern and southern culture." Apparently a lot of people notice big differences...be sure to talk to friends who have come south.

yeah, funny you mention that... my friend's cousin spent one day there before taking her car and driving home. kind of crazy haha... but yeah I'm already looking at a few other non-state schools in the southeast. I'd be nervous going to any state school in the south, so I don't think UGA would be a good fit for me if I have any concerns.

Don't get me wrong though...I love Athens and UGA. I think there's something there for about anyone, just like I said try to visit and/or talk to your friends...it's different for everyone.
