Hi;
I am unsure about whether I should take the CHEMISTRY or BIOLOGY subject test (this year). I have/am taking regular courses @ high school for both. I prefer biology a bit more, but I'm not particularly strong in either subject (I still want to try though).

I’d take bio. The chem on the SAT II is not what most people are used to from chem. I took Accelerated Chem last year, and it was mainly calculation based, while the test is almost exclusively application/memorization based. Bio, on the other hand, is based on memorization in class, so you’d theoretically do better on the subject test for Bio, as they’ll be a BIT more like your regular finals. Do prepare for them though, as most are designed for students who took college prep courses in the subjects.

When I took the Bio test sophomore year, my teacher lent me a book to study with, I think it was Kaplan. It worked pretty well, I did some practice tests & reviewed with it and wound up getting a 720 (Bio E). I didn’t take Chem, but I’ve heard it’s a beast, so personally I’d go with Bio. I wasn’t stellar at bio in school, but the test wasn’t absolutely awful.

What grade are you in?
I’m a Senior and I’ve taken both Biology and Chemistry this year. I initially took the latter because I thought it would be easier since I took Honors Chemistry last year. On the date that I retook it I also took Biology-M (I’m in AP Bio this year) and I was perturbed by how relatively easy it was. I wish I had just studied for Bio in the first place.
