Opinions on Senior Year Courses?

So for my 2018-2019 year, I’ve registered for the following courses:

AP US Gov/AP Macroeconomics (Each course is 1 semester)
AP Spanish Language and Composition (I’ve heard that 4 years of foreign language accentuates your college app)
AP Physics C: Mechanics (Major-Related)
AP Calculus BC (Major-Related + I’m a math person)
AP English Language and Composition (The other choice would be Honors British Literature; however, it requires that we read several novels throughout the year)
AP Statistics (Considering dropping it for Engineering Concepts)

My current schedule is:

Spanish III Honors (Extremely easy course for me) - A
Accelerated(Honors) Pre-Calculus (Extremely easy until the statistics units crushed my grade) - B
AP US History - A
AP Chemistry - B
AP Psychology - A
Honors American Literature and Composition (fictional novels, novels, novels, ugh) - A

Additional Information:
Took AP World History last year. Ended with an A and scored a 4 on the AP exam.
Took AP Physics 1 last year. Ended with an A and scored a 3 on the AP exam.

Should I drop any classes?

Wow! This is an awesome schedule! It looks very hard, so good luck! Your current suggested schedule seems fine and nice. I wouldn’t drop any classes unless you feel like it. Taking six APs is going to be really tough, but as long as you know what you’re expecting, and you’re prepared, I think you’ll be okay. However, something I did want to mention is that if you feel like AP Spanish may be too hard, it is okay to take Spanish 4, as that will still be enough in terms of four years of foreign language, but because you got an A in Spanish 3 Honors, I think you’ll do well.

Best of luck and have a good day.

I had the option to take Spanish 4 over AP Spanish, but I heard that the Spanish 4 teacher makes her course much more rigorous and demanding than the AP equivalent.

@jl4382 If that’s the case, good luck in AP Spanish and your other courses!

Have a good day!

Looks good!

I believe AP English Lang requires novels too, it’s all nonfiction though and not as much (at least in my school). Are you considering majoring in engineering? If so, I’d definitely drop AP Stats and take Engineering Concepts.

Drop AP Stats since you had trouble with it and you don’t need it (it’s a good class to take in college, will be relaxing for you if you’re an engineering major + AP stats is great for kids who can’t/won’t take calculus but with Physics C and calc bc you don’t need it’s)
Since you’re planning to go into engineering Engineering concepts would make sense. However you could take a free period to have enough time to handle college applications.
Could you take Gov&Econ honors instead of AP?

@MYOS1634 alright, ill drop ap stats for engineering concepts. as for gov/econ though, would it somehow be detrimental to my college application if i were to drop it since ive already taken 3 AP social studies classes?
@mjt182 oh, okay. im cool with reading nonfiction novels

You don’t have to take Engineering concepts. You have a super demanding schedule with Physics C and 5 APs. So, you could take Econ/Gov honors+ Principles, perhaps?

  1. Why AP Stats? I would drop that
  2. You have gotten to level 4 of Spanish, I assume (like you took Spanish 4 last year and this year you are taking AP Spanish?_… If you have taken Spanish 4, that is all you really need. So if you are thinking about STEM in college and arent’ particularly interested in Spanish you could also drop that…unless your college requires a Foreign Lang and then you could test out of it.

@bopper @jl4382 says that he/she was in Spanish 3 Honors this year, so he/she has not taken Spanish 4 at all. Just wanted to let you know.

Have a good day!

4 AP classes during your SR year is PLENTY. Drop Stats, take some other honors history/ gov classes, and dont worry about how it will “look” to colleges. Its NOT a race where the student with the most AP’s wins.
4-7 AP classes during your entire HS career is more than enough. What is MORE important is how you do in those classes, ESPECIALLY during your 1st semester when you are ALSO going to be busy doing college applications, essays, etc. etc.
