I'm thinking this may be where I end up going. What is the general opinion of it on this board? (I have a 3.75W and a 2070 w/Varsity Lax.. Any Scholarships?)

I know it is pretty easy to get into to.. But I also know that I am smart and have slacked through my earlier years of high school! I think the local and general scene, and the change of climate (Colorado from FL) is really a great thing for a college experience.

What is the school strongest in academically? How does a UC diploma look when applying to Grad School?

CU is strongest in its engineering, I believe. If your unweighted GPA is low enough that you doubt you can get into a more selective school, breathe easy because, like almost any other state school, CU sends a sizable number of students to strong grad programs every year.

CU is probably one of the most beautiful campuses (and settings) of any state university. Not that I’ve seen them all, but I can’t imagine too many others outdoing it. It’s big, and you certainly can get a good education there.

Though you could get get into a more selective school if you wanted to with your stats. What are you looking for, besides a change of scene from Florida? There are some good private colleges where the total cost of attendance would be comparable to CU for out-of-staters.

Just to give you an example there’s Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Total COA is approximately $42K for tuition, room and board (compared to CU at something like $40K for OOS - double check). I would think your prospects for financial aid would be better there than at CU. This is a small, private liberal arts college with a music conservatory attached, under 2000 students, in a small city.

In Colorado, there is Colorado College. It’s a similar school but more selective (and a bit more expensive) than Lawrence.

I have no idea if Lawrence is a good match for your interests, but if you are a smart late bloomer who wants to go to graduate school, you’d get more individual attention at a small liberal arts college like this than at CU.

It is an excellent school with a wide range of students. It is VERY easy to get distracted, so you must be very disciplined and motivated to get yourself to class. Boulder is a perfect college town.
