I'm a transfer applicant and I feel like I need to tell the university my reasons for not accepting CAP last year, and why i'm ready for UT now. I don't anticipate this essay being long at all. I just want to mention a few reasons why my parents had me decline CAP.

Can I write this in letter form to address adcom directly? And by directly I mean "Dear Admissions." I don't feel like this needs to be like my other essays with an intro, body, and conclusion. Just a short letter to address this issue.

Is it ok if I do this (seeing as its optional anyway) or will they frown upon this?

I don't know if they will frown on it but I don't think it will help you. The UT Admissions people are going to accept you or reject you based on your current application, based on what they know about you now. (I think they are going to accept you because you have been doing very well at your current school.)

A list of reasons why your parents recommended that you reject CAP when it was offered in the past has nothing to do with the 2009 you.

Reminding UT Admissions of the fact that they once offered you CAP is not helpful either. They pretty much offer everyone CAP.

I would write something for Essay C (why not? it's another chance to floor an adcom with your essay-writing prowess!), but I definitely would not write about this topic. Live in the present, not the past.
:)

You're right Midwestmom, they do offer everyone CAP. I guess if I had actually denied an admission offer then I should write the essay, but thats not the case so I don't think I need to worry about it.

As for essay C, do you think I should even write something? hookem16, you think I should, but when I visited UT last fall the admissions counselor told our group that they have enough to read, and unless its some unique circumstance then we shouldn't write essay C. I wrote it last year because I thought it would prove I was really determined to get in, but I didn't get in.

I'm hoping my 3.75 university gpa, 4.0 community college gpa (it was just 1 class), and EC's, work experience, volunteer work, other essays will get me in.

alchemist- I wrote that as a part of my personal statement. I think out of essays A and E, essay A (the personal statement) is my strongest.

for essay A i wrote about how i prepared myself in the period of 1.5 years in community college. I wasn't great at high school. And, I have developed tremendously during this time maintaining the perfect GPA and taking most rigorous courses like calculus sequence, university Physics, chemistry etc. My transcript and teachers recommendation highly support my essay.
Still I'm doubtful about getting in.

you must be very proud of yourself :) for essay A I basically wrote about my major (how and why I chose it), my graduate plans, the experiences that have helped create my goals, and I mentioned how I emailed with a UT law professor who helped guide me into law which is ultimately what I want to pursue. If anyone would like to read my essays, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on them. I'm fairly confident about A, but not so sure about E (I wrote about the economic crisis and its effect on my family).

... which is all why i'm iffy on if I should even write essay C now, because every topic it mentions i've already covered in the other two essays, other than race/ethnicity. But I know UT has a large persian population anyway, and thats what I wrote last year's essay C on.

welll.....I got in automatically on the top 10% rule, but I wrote essay C personally because I'm applying to Plan IIm which places huge emphasis on essays in its admissions process, so I wanted them to have lots to read :)

i also applied for turing scholars program... extra 3 essays for that....
I wrote almost 6 essay just for UT... Can u believe it - how badly i want to go.... not just because of it ranking and reputation..... I want to do best in CS during my undergraduate, and in graduate school i'll concentrate in animation and graphic... I want to bring new revolution in gaming world, lol

alchemist, I sent you essay A. feel free to send me yours if you would like me to read it. just let me know what you think and if I should change anything :) i'll send essay E now. Also i'm applying as an economics major, but I would like to transfer into mccombs later.and gaming world? lol wow cool maybe you will be on the team to make sims 6 or something :P

hookem- congrats on top 10! I wish I made it. as for honors, i'm not applying for that this year :P my first concern is getting in the school haha.

If you would like, I could read it. I am applying for the Fall '09 and am not sure if my essay A is on topic. So either I can send you mine when its finished (probley tomorrow) or you could send me yours and I will be more than happy to read it.

For essay A, I basically wrote a little tid bit of my interests and why I want to pursue mechanical engineering as my major. I also wrote about current technologies in my field and how great UT is for my major and how much it will impact my future career.

My essay C was an old Texas Tech freshman essay that I never submitted so that worked out great since it was the same prompt. I wrote about oil and about how our generation needs to find alternative fuels.

Btw, where in houston do you live? I live in Katy.

Really? Thats interesting, my dad sells cars. thats funny because he also has his masters in mechanical engineering. Ok its sent, tell me what you think :) and i'd love to read yours as soon as you finish
