if i'm sending in a letter of recommendation from my former boss (internship), do i just ask him to send it directly to harvard admissions? must the letter contain any information (other than my name) to help harvard match it up with my application file?

Also....does anyone know if harvard scans all letters/materials into the system, and then the admissions committee views it by computer? If anyone knows whether yale and princeton do this too, that would be great. Thanks so much!!!

You could stick on your social security number and birthday, since those are easy things by which to identify you, also. I put those as a footer on every page of my application, I think, along with my name.

Oh yeah -- for H and Y, you can print the teacher rec form off the common app website (if you're using the common app), and cross out "teacher" and write "supplemental." If you use the common app and already have your info filled in, the info boxes at the top of the rec forms should be enough to identify you. Then, have your boss staple the letter to the forms after he's filled in his personal info form at the top. He does NOT have to fill out the checkboxes or answer the specific questions, he just has to staple the letter itself.

That's what my (very experienced) GC told me to do.

I told the people who are doing my supplemental recommendations to either fax it or mail it to the Harvard Undergraduate Admissions Office. I also told them that I believe they prefer fax, as it's quicker. I then told them my date of birth and high school name so that they may better sort it out.
