optional picture

hey guys what do u think is the purpose of columbia saying that if you want you could send in a picture of yourself...i dont kno how true this is but i heard that sometimes it helps them see the diverse people applying....n e ideas?

send it if ur good looking

I would say it's always harder to reject a person than an application, so send the picture.

well according to them the adcoms want to match a face to the application. especially if you've met them before. and like bing said, its harder to reject a person than pieces of paper so send away.

def send it. I agree with lynda and bing.

Also not sure if sjay was kidding, but if we take a look back in pyschology class, you should remember that attractive people have a better shot at the positive outcome.

Also, keep in mind that you have so little chances to express who you really are in your application. This is another venue to do that, and I'd definitely take advantage of it.

To go along with yap's psychology, the corrolary of bing's post is that it is easier to reject an ugly person than an application!

yeah i was kinda kidding.....but i definitely was keeping that mode of thought in my mind

as unfair as it is, many studies have proven that success rates are noticeably higher for more attractive people

yea, 20/20 did a study on that and found that true, lol.

but where on the application does it say they want an optional picture?

On the online part, it's after the essay.

haha, yeah i saw that 20/20 report...that's actually the "study" i was keeping in mind as i wrote that

I saw the picture as another chance to express myself ... last year for Superhero Day at school, I dressed up as Calculus Man, so I sent that picture of me ...

BWAHAHAHA. but what are RRAM and LRAMs?

You really dont' want to know. Its all about integration and find the area under a graph

Oh, but you do want to know! Calculus is seriously the most interesting subject ever. I love it.

Do you think the admissions officers laughed?

not to be mean, but yes... I'm guessing it was a laugh over lunch.

Good. That was the intended effect. I wanted it to burn in their memory. How could you reject Calculus Man from an engineering school, honestly?

lol... I guess. You applied RD?

Nope, ED. Already in. :)

Ha... I'm not too bright at 2 in the morning... I just saw you in the 2010 chatroom. Heck you repsonded to my thread. lol.
