It seems kind of strange to me that we're not picking our classes until just a few days before they actually begin. Just wondering: is there usually enough time to shop around for books online, or do most students end up getting them from Dartmouth itself?

Professors are pretty understanding that a lot of students shop for books and many will post the first couple of days readings on blackboard, or have a copy of the book on reserve. I usually bought some books at wheelock and some online. There will also some books you won’t be able to get online (course readers, etc) and will have to buy. Also Amazon shipping is generally pretty fast.

Also, in future terms, you’ll be selecting your classes much earlier.

See, for example, the dates for Winter 2013 in the Fall 2012 calendar: [Fall 2012 Term Calendar](<a href=“This page has moved”>Fall 2012 Term Calendar)

Of course, you may change your mind; you may not get the class you want; etc. But, there is more lead time in general to search for deals.
