OPUS Admissions Deposit Link: Accepted?

I don't seem to be able to upload an attachment, so, it's as simple as this:
On the admissions page of learner services, on the right hand side under "course catalog and schedule," there is an icon and the phrase "Pay Your Admission Deposit On-Line!" In clicking on that link, my daughter's name is at the top of the page, with Undergraduate Emory College to the right, followed by a draft check to fill in with bank info, with the billing detail for $450 under that.
On the same admissions page, under the usual "Links to Emory Schools" there are a couple of other new listings: "Emory College Tour and Session Events" (which seems to be active), and "Emory College April Open House Hosting Events" (which is not). Hope this helps. I hope Emory isn't letting this computer tease end up causing a lot of confusion if, in fact, it is not a prelude to a formal acceptance letter.

If I go to learner services--->admissions---->pay your deposit on line--->it gives me a page with the info on how to do on-line banking. It reminds me of pay pal. My son's name is at the top. But nowhere in the OPUS does it say he has or will be admitted.

I am trying to remember if it was always there and I just didn't notice it for some reason. I think we looked once back in December after we got the letter with the password to make sure the application was complete.

I went back into the CC archives and there was no mention of this last year. Furthermore, the RD came out in three waves. There were RD acceptances mid March, end of March, and right around April 1. Internationals had emails and then follow up snail mail. No email or computer status pages were mentioned from the US admits.

Soooo...I would sadly have to accept the receptionist's assessment. Or maybe they are doing a monkey/banana experiment. ;)

I have a new theory based on your post texastaximom. If previous year RD acceptance letters came in "waves," then I think the admission deposit link is a sign of a letter of acceptance "in the mail" so that anyone receiving one can immediately go online to make a deposit. Perhaps, these early March letters are to strong candidates and/or persons who have shown great interest in Emory by making a campus visit, etc., as we did. Then, as March unfolds, other waves will hit the mail, and true to Emory's promise, all acceptances/rejections will be in the mail by April 1. It would seem only logical that they would put up a link for a deposit so that an accepted candidate could respond immediately online if desired. With so many students receiving letters across the country and world, they wouldn't be able to put up a deposit link when they think someone might receive the letter. So they put a link up for everyone who's accepted per mailing, even if it precedes reception of the letter. How's that for a little theorizing which may be totally wrong? If this is not what's happening, they ought NOT to post a deposit link. It's just too confusing, because everyone would like to know ASAP about their admission without being teased by such a link.

I just talked to the receptionist at Emory. Here's what she said when i asked her about the new link that popped up

"Oh, that doesn't mean anything. Some people think that they have been accepted when they see that, but it doesn't mean anything. Thank you. Bye"

:( So much for that.

People, come on, USE YOUR HEADS. DO NOT CALL EMORY ABOUT THIS!

This is a bug in their database system. They don't want you to know your decision; if they did, they would tell you already. If they get calls about this, they will fix it!

Well anyway. It doesn't really matter. All the people who are going to get in are going to get their letters in about 3-4 weeks, so if it is a bug in their database system, which seems quite far-fetched the same people who would know that they got accepted will be accepted no matter if they fix it or not.

Comprende.

"So if it is a bug in their database system, which seems quite far-fetched the same people who would know that they got accepted will be accepted no matter if they fix it or not."

A. It's not far-fetched. I'm a web developer. This kind of careless error is common. OPUS is a spaghetti salad of PeopleSoft DB code.
B. "People who would know that they got accepted will be accepted no matter if they fix it or not." What? Please be more clear.
The point is that, these links are probably being added progressively as decisions are made. We want to know as soon as we are accepted, not April 1st. Of course this bug won't affect the final decision; we just want to know sooner.

Again, don't be silly and ask Emory about this stuff. The receptionists are likely to know nothing about the issue anyways.

I'm still thinking the monkey/bananas. I wonder if someone at Emory is counting hits and laughing their butt off?

I don't think they would intentionally do something like this. It could be that they decided that a few calls to the admissions office was worth the hassle instead of processing admission deposits manually. Maybe the receptionists have been told to sound aloof and non-committal. It IS funny how this thread has flowed, with even a little shouting going on. Hey, it's just fun to try to figure it out...nothing to be uptight about.

College admissions is such a charged subject that anything can make people go crazy.

Start a thread in the Yale forum about how you received your RD decision early with below average stats and no flags. I guarantee you, people will go crazy. It's like a drop of blood in the shark's tank.

Oh dear, now we don't want to start a riot! I wonder if anyone has deposited using the link. It may not be active past that first page.

lol that would be funny if some1 deposited... too bad its not my first choice, otherwise i would probably give it a try...

I hate to add fuel to this ... but one of my friends had applied early to Emory. His two sisters were already students there and found out he was accepted by typing in his name & ID & seeing there was an account already set up for him..... so .....

everhopeful:

They probably only do this for ED applicants. Since they know that ED applicants will end up attending, it's safe to add email accounts for them.

heyyy....i went ED1, and everybody else that did had this same discussion...from what i saw...if u had that link, u got in, if not, u didnt...but i only spoke to a few people, so its entirely possible that im wrong....Good Luck to every1!

I guess I'm only saying ( and since I don't have the link : ( I hope I'm wrong) is that Opus might be that easy to crack.

sabnetwork, don't feel bad... I don't have the link either (so far). Then again, it took them a very long time to update my application status on opus, so finding out a decision this early does not seem possible. Good luck to everyone, though!

don't they have to receive your mid year report before they can make a decision because I know that schools just recently my mid year report.

oh man i ate these really bad beef jerky sticks they're so bad

now where does it say you have to make your deposit?

i clicked on the financial button and it shows me two new buttons:
1) make on-line payment
2) enroll in payment plan

but I don't see anythign on the admissions portion

finally, i checkted the "To Do List" Summary and it says this:
