Do you guys know if we get our own rooms during orientation or do we need to share? Also, how hard is the English and Spanish placement exams and what is on there?

You share.

The exams are going to be similar to cumulative finals you would take in a class, and some are more like AP Exams. I took the Latin placement exam, and it was an AP Exam. This was two years ago, and none of the other language exams were AP exams, but this may have changed. I think that since so many students take Spanish, it is a little easier to get at least a little credit or exempt an intro course, but I would recommend studying if you are serious about doing well. I took the Math exam and exempted two intro courses, so that I only needed one more semester of math to complete that part of my core requirements. Doing well can pay off!

If you've already taken the AP exam in X subject, do you need to take a placement exam? I'm going to be taking the AP Latin Vergil exam next week; I really don't want to retake it if I don't have to.

No, you can choose whatever placement exams you take, if any. A lot of people choose not to. You take a campus tour instead or some other activity while other students take exams, I believe. Good luck on your Latin exam! Hopefully you will get some nice credit from UGA if you do well! :)

By the way, about the room situation, you will be randomly assigned a roommate for the night, and you will stay in one of the high-rise dorms.

When do get orientation information?

Nevermind. From the UGA website:

The Orientation Registration Website will go live today at 2:00 pm EST for students enrolling at UGA for the 2008 Summer Term.

Transfer Students enrolling at UGA beginning Fall Semester 2008 will be able to register for Orientation beginning May 8th, 2008.

First Year Students enrolling at UGA beginning Fall Semester 2008 will be able to register for Orientation beginning the second full week of May.

so can we not choose a roommate for the orientation night?

I don't think you can. I think they randomly assign you to a roommate, but it shouldn't be too bad. It's only for one night.

You won't be in the room for long...they keep you very busy...it's just to sleep.

If you're going to orientation with somebody you know and want to room with, just arrive at the place where they're housing you at the same time, and request a room together. They accomodated for those requests when I had orientation last summer.

There are certain things that can get you exempted from the English placement test (certain AP grades and joint enrollment credit), but I don't remember the specifics. I didn't even bother with the Spanish test since I wanted to get into the lowest class possible...I ended up just making a design with my scantron. Waste of 15 dollars...but whatevs...I got an A in a 4 hour easy class to help with my GPA! If you're good at spanish, and want a GPA booster, purposefully fail the test to get into the lowest class so you can take it for a grade. I don't believe they give you a grade when you exempt...you just get credit (getting credit and getting a grade is not the same thing). But that's just me... :P
