Orientation Questions

Hi All,

Just a few questions regarding orientation at FSU. I dropped my deposit and got an email telling me to log in to my.fsu.edu and then to look for this —> “Undergraduate students, have you registered for new student Orientation? To register or update your reservation CLICK HERE.”
However, after clicking the link I was told this —> “Records show that you are not a newly admitted degree-seeking undergraduate student. For questions or assistance, please contact the appropriate office below depending on your campus…”
Am I the only one encountering this? I wanted to ask before I went on and contacted FSU. I already am admitted and I already have made my deposit so i didn’t know if this was occurring for everyone, or if it’s just taking a bit to recognize that I am ‘enrolled’.

My other question was how it all worked? I also got an email informing me on ‘Preview Days’. I looked up the difference between Preview and Orientation and was given this —> “Do not confuse Preview (special visitation days) with Orientation (when you actually register for your classes). You will receive orientation materials at a later date. If you and your parents can only participate in one event as a family, we recommend Orientation, which is scheduled for May and June.”

So is it true that you register for Fall classes during your Orientation? Also; what else goes on during orientation?

Thanks in advance

the message you got is just an error because the orientation registration doesn’t open up until January 20th. I got the same message.

I think preview is a time when you go an visit, while it is more specific to admitted students. I think that you get to tour dorms in preview as well. Orientation is when we get our FSU cards and sign up for classes.

oooo gotcha, makes sense  thanks @taylorfalcone

Yeah, Preview is just a general tour date for the campus. You can, of course, set up a tour at pretty much any time but Preview is when most departments are prepared for tours and have people available. Preview’s also completely optional (although I tend to recommend visiting campus at least once if you can).

Orientation is mandatory for all students wanting to attend FSU. It’s a 3-day event (well, almost 3 days), where you live on campus and get introduced to life as a student, and are informed of a lot of the policies and stuff that FSU has in place.
