Hello all!

I've just recently been accepted for my UCF transfer and just signed up for my orientation. What I was wondering was, what all do you do at orientation? I know you register for classes, have lunch, and meet faculty. But, since it's an eight hour thing, what else is to be expected?

Thanks!

Congrats to you Osmodius. May I ask how long did it take for the school to get back to you on there decision? When did you applied and last date of the transcript received? I recently applied where they are waiting back for two more transcripts from me. Thanks!

Thanks! =D

Nope not all. I finished my application portion April 30th, sent my transcripts sometime later and found out June 4th. So I guess maybe 2-3 weeks from them receiving my transcripts to getting the decision.

You sit through some presentation where they try to get everyone all excited(it doesn’t really work haha), then they break you off by college. You will go with your group to your specific college’s building and you will sit through another presentation by an advisor which talks about making a smooth transition and how most transfers end up failing, they go over all the consequences of failing and what not, and they will give you your papers that include your audit and recommended degree schedule. Then they seperate you by major, each major will then go through another presentation from their specific major’s advisor/representative. They will tell you about the curriculum and what’s expected out of you, then they will discuss appropriate scheduling depending on which courses you’ve completed and will make recommendations on which classes to take. You will go to lunch, listen to another short presentation, be broken up by college again, and then you will go back to your college and register for classes.
Make sure all of your stuff has been turned in though, like immunization and transcripts. Actually, I would suggest bringing copies anyways. They won’t let you sign up for classes without them. They recieved my transcripts before my orientation and I still had problems, my audit didn’t show any classes at all so I had to log on to my current schools website and show my unofficial transcript to have them override the classes I wanted to enroll in. Even my immunization didn’t show up. But I had faxed them a day earlier. Luckily I brought them with me and was able to get that straightened out too. I saw a lot of people sitting at the table trying to call people to get them faxed.
Sorry for the long post haha, but that’s basically everything that went down.

Oh, don’t worry, it wasn’t too long. Was very informative. Thanks.

Doesn’t sound too bad actually. Seems pretty neat going to your campus and such especially one as big as UCF when I’m used to a very small one. I’ll definitely take extra copies just in case, thanks for that tip as well. I actually just had to fax in my immunizations in yesterday because they said they wouldn’t receive them in the mail in time for my orientation. Good thing I had copies haha.

One more quick (and dumb) question, sorry. During the presentations do you have to introduce yourself or talk to a group at one point? Only reason I ask is because I remember when my sister had to do that for college and I hate doing that stuff… I don’t mind sitting through presentations, but that, I’m not too into.

Thanks a bunch again.

No, you won’t have to do any public speaking. When you first get there they will sit you at a table with a bunch of random people probably 10 or so. And at one point you shake their hands. But that’s not so bad lol.
I also forgot to mention that they offer an entire campus tour during the day. It was raining when I went so no one did it, but I do remember hearing something about it.
