so anyone else think this orientation is a waste of time... i made tons of new friends, but i'm dying at the lectures giving information we knew months ago. they could have easily made this orientation only a few hours long...

I thought it was pretty much a waste of time. I didn’t make any friends from it.

I made a lot of friends, but I found a lot of the activities to be stupid and just a waste of time. I left in the middle cause it was terrible.

Ahhhh more pessimists to add to the UCSD population!

Ha ha. Ok seriously I’m one of the most optimistic people (plus I already go to UCSD). I just thought it was a waste of money to be standing around in a circle playing ninja and receiving a lot of information I already knew. It wasn’t completely pointless, but too long for what we did.

No, I definitely agree. I didn’t like it much either - I was really concerned that all of college would be like that (thank god, it’s not.) It’s just part of the process though and it was good for making friends at least.

None of the kids in my orientation group had any intentions of being my friend. I would tell people not to get bummed out if they haven’t made any good friends after a while. It took me about half of freshman year before I made a good friend.

^^^^ that’s really sad!

Well, I think people have different ideas of what “friend” means. I’m an incoming frosh and I don’t expect to make “friends” right away, except maybe with my roomie. Then again I’m not a Facebook-friend kind of girl.

$KingsElite$,
What do you mean by the kids having no intentions of making friends?

^I don’t know. They just didn’t seemed interested in talking to me during orientation and they never talked to me after.

maybe you didn’t take the initiative to go talk to others either?

don’t blame the others in your orientation group if you yourself were unwilling to go and talk to others.

at first, everyone was not really open and didn’t really want to talk in my orientation group, but i decided to just take the initiative myself and started striking up convos with a few people and bam, they started to talk to me and i made some of my best friends in college.

I did try talking to people. That’s not the point anyway. The people in my orientation group weren’t necessarily the people I thought I would be making long term friendships with anyway. I just wanted to say that people who didn’t make any friends at orientation not to worry because you’ll be meeting a lot of new people throughout the year.

i thought it was too long too. the ice breakers were just…awkward.

Ride, ride, ride that pony.

^ Oh god…

hahahahahahhahaha
