I’m a senior in high school starting the application process. I have my heart set on Ohio State University and am nervous about not getting in. I have a 4.3 GPA but a 26 ACT score. I’ve taken 7 AP classes and am president of 2 clubs and am very involved in the school and volunteering and activities. What is my chances of getting into the main campus?
If you have your heart set on OSU you should go there no matter what it takes. “What it takes” may even be starting out at one of the branches. I think this will be the most competitive year yet to get to main. A lot of aspiring buckeyes can’t take a rejection of admission to main or to their college (Fisher/Engineering) and decide to go elsewhere. I had a sibling like that who attended a different school to start. In the end they transferred back to OSU and pursued an entirely different major, one they could have pursued there from the beginning if they hadn’t been so hurt by not being directly admitted to the college they wanted (a major they were a bad fit for, which they realized at the other school). Don’t be surprised if admissions offers a branch or you have to prove yourself a bit to get into your college, look into all the advantages of starting at a campus where you will have professors in a much smaller setting and are more accessible. And if you are accepted directly to main or get a direct admit to your preferred college - celebrate - then be ready to study and work much harder than you ever had to in hs.
Good Luck!
I would retake the ACT and try to pull that score up.
Does your HS rank students, if so what is your class rank? Class rank is an important metric that OSU looks at, if you are in the top 10% that will help your chances, also if your HS is a competitive school that should help and some believe that if you are instate versus out of state that could help you too. Finally I agree with suzy100, talk the ACT again it would help if you can get it up to a 28. Good luck, if you raise your ACT score a few points I think you will have a very good (but not guaranteed) chance to get in.
I applied early decision because I was told it would give me a better chance. I’m ranked 6 out of 209 in my class, so yes I’m in the top 10 percent. Also I’m an in-state student.
