At CC, we prepare all year for the few days when our traffic peaks as schools announce decisions and our members compare notes, and we were totally ready this year. Our 2010 capacity is far higher than our 2009 level. We have more web servers, redundant powerful database servers, and plenty of bandwidth to handle even a huge traffic surge… and then we experienced a major hardware failure that took us offline for hours.
We’re still sorting out what happened, but it looks like a key part of our hardware infrastructure failed at the most inopportune moment. This is unprecedented in our 9 years of operation. We apologize for letting you down at this critical time.
Be assured that we will take whatever steps are necessary to prevent a repeat. As we restore our capacity, the site may remain slow for a while.
