Our School's New Tardy Policy

Starting tomorrow:

1 tardy = Wednesday School (3 hour detention)
2 tardies = 1 day ISS
3 tardies = 3 days ISS
4 tardies = 3 days OSS

Ridiculous or what? I'm actually going to have to be on time to school ;(.

That seriously is ridiculous. At my school you need 6 tardies before you even get a detention.

haha same here. we have hallway "sweeps" where they try to catch late students and put them in detention.

would be nice if they put that much effort into really sweeping the halls...

k....what if there is an accident on the road, or something., totally out of yours and your parents control....

or with the weather....

I don't see this working if its not the students fault

at my school 1 tardy = 25 minute detention (but seniors do get a little leway from certain teachers. so they'll mark a tardy but we don't have to serve detentions)

but for the 4th tardy and every tardy afterwards = 4 HOUR Saturday School each tardy.

sucks here too.

Therefore if you forsee lateness..........hit the coffee shop and arrange for medical excuse? I mean what is this?

My school

You get a late pass and get marked late.

Yea, if I'm going to be late to school, might as well not go at all lol.

My school has a 3 tardy system.

1 Tardy- Verbal warning
2- Written warning
3- 2 days detention

if its just a few minutes, teachers usually let it slip here. It depends on the teacher though.
Unexcused latenesses just show up on your report card, and I think if there are an excessive amount, like 10+, you get a detention though I think.
As long as you have a note though, and its before 2nd pd, you show it to your teacher and its excused, but teachers don't like it if it gets excessive.
If its after 2nd pd, you need a note from the parent and depending on the reason its either excused or unexcused. If you are late after 2nd pd without a note 3 times, you get a detention

Mine is a detention for 1 tardy. and for each tardy after that double the previous amount. so 2 tardies is 2 detentions, etc. Detention is 45 minutes. I just got a detention for my shirt being untucked (Catholic school).

So, because of the new tardy policy, a whole bunch of kids decided to "protest" right after 1st block today in the courtyard.

They are all getting 10 days OSS or expulsion.

dangggg. is your school private or public? that's hardcore intense...

if you mean tardy to school in the morning before 1st hour, our school is just, go to the office and get a late pass and it counts as a regular class tardy.

class tardy policies per semester:
1st & 2nd: verbal warning
3rd until the 6th: 1/2 hour detention after school with the teacher per tardy
7th: saturday detention
10th: dropped from class

My school's pretty lenient. You'll always definitely be counted tardy on your record, but punishments are sporadic. An unexcused tardy is 1 point, an unexcused absence is 2 points.

If you get 20 points, you fail.

I haven't heard of anyone fail on absences/tardies

Our school is a suburban public school of about 3000 kids. Pretty diverse actually.

sounds draconian

I thought mine was ridiculous. You get 5 tardies and you get a referral and miss the class you are tardy in. Every tardy after that its the same result. It is refreshed every 9 weeks.

haha. wow.

technically speaking, we're supposed to get a detention if we're tardy 3 times. however, a "tardy" doesn't count if you have a medical-excuse note from a parent or doctor. also, my bus pulls into school late every day anyway, so the secretary just lets me slide. my school only gives out lunch detentions (as far as I know, anyway), and those are a joke -- you sit and you chat with the teacher there.

=-0

At my school, 9 tardies (or 3 unexcused absences) is supposed to get you dropped from the class... But the rule's not enforced too well, considering I was tardy almost every day to first period freshman year and to three different periods soph year. Unfortunately this year, my teachers actually care. =-\ They don't realize they're putting my life in jeopardy by making me go twice the speed limit.

One more reason to hate my APUSH teacher...

My school has no rule for tardies.
16 unexcused absences and you fail the class.

I find it's a hassle to get a note and have the teachers sign it and then take it to the office, so I just let the unexcused pile up. It's not like I'm going to miss 16 days anyway.
