Out-Of-State College

Hello!

I am a straight A student with a HUGE interest in attending out of state college. I’m slowly accumulating what i’d call a pretty impressive application (I’ve made a national winning app, was featured at the white house science fair, made a few commercials, ect.)
I feel a little confident that I can get into at least one of my college choices (Stanford, Caltech, UCLA, MIT are my top four), there is only one problem: My family lives check to check.
There is much difficulty we have financially at the moment, but I really do not want to attend a local college for my major (comp sci/engineering). I wouldn’t mind transferring out of state after getting my bachelors, but I wanted to know if there are any scholarships specific to OOS applicants.
Also, will any scholarships I do receive be applicable toward my tuition out of state or will all of them only apply in state?

Thanks so much for your help!

UCLA is a California public university so you will receive little to no financial aid as an OOS student. They do offer some scholarships such as the Alumni or Regents but these are a drop in the bucket in comparison to the total costs which are around $60K/year.

I suggest you run the Net Price Calculator (NPC) on all schools of interest and if they are public universities, make sure they ask if you are in-state or out of state for fairly accurate estimates.

Sounds like you’re off to a great start in high school!

You’ll have plenty of time to build your college list in your junior year. Come back and restart this discussion next year!
