OSU seems to be what I am looking for in an environment and location, and has stood out to me. I’m from California and the extent of my knowledge about OSU is not huge, academic wise. With that said:
2110 SAT, with a 780 on critical reading
3.8 weighted GPA, with a fairly rigorous course schedule (I can probably go into specifics if need be)
Good extracurriculars, 4 year golf team member, 2 year mock trial member. Over 160 hours of community service (not sure if that’s needed in Ohio)
I can also write a good essay, so I believe that this would bolster me as well.
With all that said, I appreciate anything you can tell me, and let me know if you need some more info.
@broadh20 i cannot chance you without knowing your highest math score and critical reading score in one sitting, as Ohio State does not superscore and (like most other Universities) does not consider the writing score for the current SAT. Also, what is your class rank? Is your 3.8 weighted considered top 10% of your high school class? For admitted students for the Fall entering class of 2015 the mid 50% range of the SAT Math & CR sections are 1220 (25%tile) and 1370 (75%tile). And 65% of the admitted freshmen were in the top 10% of their high school class. Checkout the scores and rankings at http://undergrad.osu.edu/admissions/quick-facts.html
@trackmbe3 2110 is my best overall, not a superscore. And not considering writing, then my SAT would be 1430.780 CR and 650 math. Also I am in the top 15% percent in my class.
@broadh20 Your SAT score for Math and CR puts you well within the top 25% of admitted students and being in the top 15% gpa-wise, you should have no problem being accepted. Make sure you write a good essay and submit your application and supporting materials (secondary school report, teacher recc, transcript, Official SAT score from the College Board) by the Nov 1 priority early action deadline, because with your scores you will qualify for the national buckeye and an additional merit aid scholarship. Check money matters on the OSU website http://undergrad.osu.edu/money-matters/scholarships.html. You did not mention your area(s) of interest, but academically the school is strong in too many areas to mention here. Checkout a news release which highlights some of the academic strengths. https://news.osu.edu/news/2015/09/09/us-news-ohio-state-climbs-in-latest-rankings/
Also consider the Honors or Scholars Program and living learning communities–each offer unique learning experiences. You will need to submit the supplemental essay on the Common App. Good luck!
