I just wanted to share an experience I had in my health class today...My teacher asked all of us in the class to name our dream schools and the one school we hope to attend in the fall. About ten people named schools (Tufts, Harvard, Syracuse, Mt. Holyoke, etc) and I, of course, said Dartmouth. Out of the blue, my teacher started attacking Dartmouth! She was like, "How are you going to survive out in the sticks for four years with no major city and nothing to do? Do they still keep you captive there for sophomore summer? I hear you have stay in cabins and hike in the woods for two months. Hanover NH has no economy so they keep the students there to pump up the economy over the summer." I was shocked and upset at how she only put down Dartmouth in that whole list of schools. Plus, she didn't seem to have her facts straight so she shouldn't have made any comments. Anyway, it just got me really angry and it also reaffirmed how much I WANT to go to Dartmouth after defending it today!

Why should you be angery? Those are all benefits of dartmouth. I would love the isolation and living in the woods and such.

And umm...Sophomore summer is one of the most amazing times ever! Great classes, parties overlooking the river, swimming in the river, cook outs, it can't be beat! Plus getting to know a good portion of your class is awesome too, its seriously great.

Where did your teacher go? No clue at all...

Hope she's not writing any recommendations. Sounds like maybe she applied in the past and did not get in so still holding a vendetta

She said she went to Russell Sage College in New York...don't know much about it except its all-girls. But yes, luckily she's not writing any recommendations lol

Next time a teacher reacts like this, use a well-known sales technique called the Boomerang. The Boomerrank goes like this:

Teacher:How are you going to survive out in the sticks for four years with no major city and nothing to do? Do they still keep you captive there for sophomore summer? I hear you have stay in cabins and hike in the woods for two months. Hanover NH has no economy so they keep the students there to pump up the economy over the summer."

Student: " That's exactly why I would love to go there."

that is hilarious, but my teachers think very highly of Dartmouth

Your teacher obviously has Ivy-envy =)

Lol, she has a point. But then again, if you think those are benefits, then more power to ya. ;)
