Does anyone know anything about summer reading for this fall? (and is there a special book for honors students or something?)
Thanks!

Yes, but they will give you a copy at orientation (at least for the honors students, not sure for others). Don’t worry about it.

The honors book is Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance by Atul Gawande. It mentioned it in the e-mail they sent out today about the honors program.

… That sounds scary. I definitely feel a “don’t pressure yourself too much” lecture coming up from the honors staff…

Haha it’s actually more about ethics and improving yourself. I wasn’t sure if they would provide a copy at orientation or anything like that, but I read the sample of it on amazon. Then I immediately bought it and finished it in a few days. Then I bought the other two books he’s written. If you didn’t catch this, I liked it hahaha.

Aw great, thanks! I actually found the First Pages site right after I posted : o
And it’s great to know you enjoyed it : D thanks(:

I’m not in honors, and I still got the letter that I have to read Better…

All incoming freshmen read the same book. Honors kids get the book for free at orientation and get to have a special smaller event with the author before the school-wide speaking event later in the evening.

They give us the book? Wish they had told us that before I bought it… : /

I was a freshman last year and I didn’t get a copy of the book!
There are actually 2 books that you should keep separate in your head:
The whole freshman class reads one book that is discussed during Welcome Week and also during the first year writing class. The first year reading project used to just be Honors, but a few years ago, it became a thing for the whole freshman class. Honors kids have some special small group sessions earlier in the Welcome Week, but at least last year, the only time with the author was when the whole freshman class went over to Matthew’s Arena for the Q&A.
The other book is just for Honors, and you read it in your Enhancing Honors class first semester.

I read Better last winter as part of the Honors program’s thing where they have students read and rate books they’re considering for next year’s book. I really enjoyed it, and I don’t usually do non-fiction. It’s also not very long. :)

No one gets the book for free (I went to orientation and I’m in honors).

Sorry, guess they stopped doing it :(
