i have many a story about slacking (kids gather around camp fire)

haha, I think we should exchange stories, a little slacker bonding

hah stories...

Two days ago in ap comp sci....we were given 2 days to take notes on a chapter and of course i ended up not doing it at home. When the teacher came around to collect it, i signed out to go the bathroom and when i returned i just sat in my seat and did the notes during the class. Luckily, my teacher was dumb enough to leave the pile of papers on her table...so as i was leaving I just dropped it on there...and voila.

Amen! I am the epitome of a slacker. My stats are very, very, unimpressive. The only tests I have taken are New York State Regents, and my average score on those is an 84.8% (5 regents; I didn't study for my chemistry regents and really didn't give a flying ---- about the class, so I scored a 66% on that). I passed, but it was definitely not what I used to. My GPA is about a 3.6/3.7. (It was a 4.0, until sophomore year when I began to stop caring...) My extracurriculars are almost nonexistant and I despise math. The reason I am a slacker is because of math, but that's a whole other story.

Anyone proud of slacking is protecting their fragile ego from setting their sights too high to achieve.

You can be laid back and still be competitive.

I am someone that takes school serious enough to know it determines whether or not I get into medical school...do I worry about grades? Yep. Do I want A's? You bet. Am I disappointed by a 92 versus a 98, yep. Why? Because I want to do my bes at anything...wouldn't you want YOUR doctor to feel the same way?

Face it, this country is built on overachievers, with degrees or without. To be proud of slacking is to embrace mediocrity because you are afraid to put yourself out there. I understand that fear, I face it myself sometimes. And to be honest I am glad you slackers are out there...it makes me look better to future employers and graduate schools.

The point is, balance is key. Don't be so laid back as to be indifferent, yet avoid being so tightly wound, that being #2 in the class makes you wet your underwear. Somewhere in between are the real success stories.

I don't think it is right to come onto a thread intended for slackers and then in your condescending way attack and criticize our philosophy. Slackers make you look better? I hope you realize how obnoxious you sound. I don't think that the people who post on this thread are apathetic and lazy, we just are mature enough to realize that we are teenagers in highschool. I think most posters here have the intention of workign ahrd in college, and that is the way it should be. You shouldn't dwindle away the last years of your youth studying all day so that you can get into a school with enough prestige so that you can feel validated. You say that anyone proud of slacking is potecting their fragile ego? I say on the contrary, it is the overachievers who spend thousands on test prep and hours on homework who are insecure and are working to compensate for their egos. And I don't think any of us are proud either. We have a problem, and we can connect to other people who have that same problem. Naturally, we will share stories etc. The reason many of us slack off--and you can say what you will, it seems that everone posting here as a slacker has very impressive grades--is because we are mature enough to know that life isn't all about credentials and numbers. Even careers aren't all about credentials and numbers, you will hopefully learn that some day. This country is not built on overacheivers, it is built on people who have a passion or telent in one given area. Your last point about balance is valid, but it fails to compensate for your obnoxious, supercillious tone. This is definitely defensive, but what do you expect when you insult basically every person on this thread? Thanks so much for your comment.

slackers trying (<- thats the odd word) to prove their 'slacker-esque' behavior and working (<- another odd word) to defend their 'slacker' pride. now THAT was not expected

Slackers have a philosophy?

Is doing nothing a philosophy? If a slacker doesn't open a book in the woods does it make a sound?

Of course you don't find it fair. How dare someone come in here and question your right to disparage those that put forth effort? What's odd is the level of effort you are putting forth to slam me, flies in the face of what being a slacker is all about. You are violating your own credo.

Next time, just type, "Whatever dude." And that will leave your slacker persona intact.

And yeah, you got it right. Your slacking makes me and other people that try hard, look better. How could it not?

Don't blame me for your inadequacies and lack of drive.

You think slacking makes you cool. And that is your folly.

And remember this isn't about good grades versus bad grades. I have more respect for a 3.0 student that put forth great effort, than a slacker that drifted along effortlessly to a 4.0. Yes. That's possible.

This is about effort more than achievement. A slacker slacks because they are afraid to venture out of their comfort zone.

You talk about me slamming everyone in this thread, did you read the thread title? It scoffs at "over-achievers". I am just following suit.

Now just type your "S.TFU dude" and we can move on with the circle of life.

Sticking up for myself does not make me a hypocrite. Slackers are not apathetic as I said earlier. I never said slacking makes me cool, and I don't even think anyone on this board is a slacker, it just seems that way in comparison to everyone else here. I'm hoping that other people chime in because I have nothing more to say about this. You brough up some valid points, I just wish you didn't come off as so combatant.

wow you guys need to calm down. we all have different worth ethics here. i prefer slacking off, yet doing good and its not the end of the world. theres a difference between highschool and college. some people are so intent on going to college that they have to go get everything right/correct. and others, are so intent on college that they realize that highschool is pointless, a waste, mind numbing and boring. either way, no ones perfect. plus, you're not so great whether youre a stoner who is smart or a perfectionist. just grow up and dont come to a thread about slackers and try to be cool. face it: you arent cool.

Let's forget about this, the atmosphere was waaaaaaay better before exilio came in, lets just move on...

I agree. I'm still pretty angry about his comments, but perhaps we should move on. Today my ap euro teacher gave this speech about turning all assingments on in time...I felt like he was preaching to me!

Exilio, this was a fun, light-hearted thread created with pure intentions. There was no need for you to come in here and try to make us feel inferior just because you have a different attitude towards life.

The truth is, none of us here are actually slackers(atleast i wouldn't think so). Why else would we care enough to spend useful time coming to a site such as this? It's because we obviously care enough for our future that we would like to be informed about colleges and furthering our education. True slackers are only people that, in my opinion, couldn't give a damn about where they're heading in the game of life.

I do have a drive, I do have ambition, I do care about my grades, and i also do regret that i haven't worked to my full potental ....but only to a certain extent;p. I am not proud of "slacking"...but that's just the way I am.

I think the whole point of this thread was just to mock those individuals who ......complain about those ~1500 sat's, 95%'s, etc...

You said so yourself.."Don't be so laid back as to be indifferent, yet avoid being so tightly wound, that being #2 in the class makes you wet your underwear. Somewhere in between are the real success stories." That's where i stand....except i'm not usually at #2 ;)

Oh boo-hoo! It's all my fault. "I'm gonna take my toys and go home now that someone slapped me with the cold hand of reality."

A thread about slackers eh? Why don't you re-read the postings. This thread is also about disparaging "over-achievers". You all are just ****ed someone called you on it.

Hey, if you don't want to hear from anyone, don't make any comments about them.

Of course the atmosphere was better. Slackers hate being challenged.

What you are missing is that there is a time to chill and a time to put forth effort. It need not be all-on or all-off.

Don't worry, I won't post in this thread anymore. I guess slackers are as sensitive as the fragile genius.

Oh my.

Big Bad tiger RAWWR

I agree dank. It was light-hearted fun. with a 3.86 gpa, I'm obviously not a true "slacker", but I have more than my share of "slacker moments". This was fun because for once no one rude came in, it was just good-natured laughs and jokes.

Okay now I feel guilty...here is a joke for you all:

A guy walks into a bar and keeps repeating, "I'm a tee-pee, I'm a wigwam, I'm a tee-pee, I'm a wigwam."

The bartender looks at the guys and says, "Relax buddy, your too tense".

Feel better? Probably not. That is an old and dorky joke.

haha, that comment about AP euro teachers... funny stuff. Mine is almost as bad as us students. Midterms ended last friday and he gave us until monday to turn in any assignents we had missed or just ignored. I was missing 3 things, (one easy thing i did in school) and then a researched essay... so wrote it up that night, emailed it to him... and didnt' do the last because he drops the lowest anyways... Lol, funny thing is that, he didn't grade OUR papers until like the last week of teh semester. He had us write this big research paper on the various interpretations of the causes of the french revolution and he didn't give us any grades back until over a month later. Did i mention he's a Varsity Football coach? Lol, he has actually watched football plays and tackles on the VCR in class while we were taking a test....

does anyone think this is a really weird trend among ap euro teachers?

my ap us teacher was crazy

i dont know about euro though.
