Can’t go wrong either way…

For whatever it’s worth, the 2010 rankings in US News and World Report put SUNY at 128 or so, and put Albany into their third tier.

Those rankings are not worth much. They are quantitative screens and there is no second tier. Make your own choices and don’t rely so much on a magazine or forum. Talk to some professors, students…visit the libraries, attend an event…sit in on a class. The success of your education and experience is more about you than them. Even if rankings did matter somewhat, is there a difference between number 53 and 128 out of thousands? Its about for you and fit. ALL the SUNY schools are “good.”

Also, depends on the major if you want to really inspect the school rankings.

Engineering- Buffalo- USNWR 57 (if I remember correctly)
Binghamton (general USNWR higher rnaking than UB) but not on the top 100 engineering in USNWR listing.

I prefer Buffalo, partially because there are so many grads in great post graduate areas that I keep meeting, since my son is there. I hear of and know fewer Albany grads.

Visit and get a feel for your “fit”.
