Hey all,

I’m interested in Brown and am planning a visit that will require me to stay overnight. Can anyone recommend a/any good hotel(s) that I can stay at? This would be at the end of december.

Thanks!

If possible, you should wait to visit the campus until after Winter Break- it ends around January 19th and classes start again the 23rd.
If you visit at the end of December, campus will be empty and you won't be able to take a tour or sit in on classes, etc.
When you visit, you might want to stay at the Inn at Brown, as it is on campus (you'll need a parent with you). See here: Saunders Inn at Brown University for more info.
If you're looking for more of a hotel kind of deal, I stayed at the Hotel Providence which was very nice. It's downtown, but not too far.

If you have a car, we have stayed in Seekonk (5-7 min away). There is a Ramada Inn (free sit down breakfast), Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn (buffet breakfast) all next to one another. It is off I -195 E. If not, there is a Radisson which offers a shuttle bus to the university which is only 5 min away too. I agree with the previous poster about attending when school is in session to really get the full feel for the university.

There is also a Best Western Inn @ Warwick, about 10 minutes from campus, if you have a car! :) I stayed there. Very cheap, breakfast every morning, friendly staff.

However, I must ALSO urge you to visit when classes are in session. It's a VERY different feel. Feel free to contact me if you decide to visit during class-time and need a guide or help or something! :)

Send me a PM if you'd like. If you come up once the break is over, I certainly would be glad to answer any questions in person which you might have about Brown to the extent that I could do so given my time there.

Best,
Fred

Well, I'm going to Providence anyway so I figured I could see Brown at the same time. Could anyone recommend some good Italian-pasta type places that aren't too expensive?

Thanks :)

Ah, well if you're going anyway, it can't hurt. :) BTW, the campus is gorgeous during autumn. GORGEOUS. And summer, too. It's really green. :) Right now it's kind of sad, with the bare trees and all, but the snow is really beautiful (aside from the one on the streets, which is slushy and black--gross!). As for the food...Hm...Italian-pasta...

Well, on Thayer Street, there's Antonio's, which has great pizzas and I ASSUME pasta and other related things. Also, in front of the Emery-Woolley dorm (if you're going down Thayer Street, you take a right on Brown Street, i.e. when you see Andrea's), there's an Italian place called Via-Via. Aside from those, I don't remember what else there is. All I know is I really miss going to Spice and to Shanghai to get my Asian cuisine on. ^_^

Andino's which is on Federal Hill
