My daughter is applying to a school that is very close to home and she was told that her sister could stay with her on Friday and/or Saturday nights whenever they want. The same goes for friends.
The other school she is applying to is a little further away and the topic of guests on the weekends never came up. I’m wondering what the policy is for most full time boarding schools in regards to overnight guests. Anyone have some insight?
As is often the case, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The one-size-fits-most answer is that guests who are not day students are not allowed to stay overnight. My own school does allow guests who are not attending the school, although they would probably frown on the “whenever they want” part. The guests would need permissions for the guest’s parent as well as from the house counselor and would need to be HS age The way to find out the answer for the schools on your daughter’s list is to ask each school.
The rules for overnight guests should also be available in the school handbook. DS’s school does have a day student population and does allow overnight guests. There are very specific procedures to follow for overnight guests who are day students and, separately, for overnight guests who are not students at the school.
