overnight stays

is anyone planning on doing an overnight stay at dartmouth? if so, when? have any current dartmouth students ever hosted a prospective? im worried my host is going to leave me to wander around for 24 hrs.

I've hosted and stayed. Your host won't ignore you, but she won't smother you either. Probably she will take you to dinner, have you hang out with her and her friends that night unless you'd prefer to be elsewhere, and then, the next day, either invite you along to classes with her or suggest some other classes you might prefer.

Plenty of high school students do overnight stays at Dartmouth. Many admitted students will stay with a host during Dimensions, a week (in April?) in which Dartmouth plans special events for admitted students.

If you are interested in applying, you can schedule an overnight stay any time during the year. Some people recommend staying during the winter to really get a feel for the weather, but I think anytime that works for you would be fine.

You can call up the Admissions Office to schedule an overnight stay with a student who has already signed up to host. If you don't feel like doing this, you're welcome to come spend a night or two with me! I'm a sophomore and I'd love to show you our campus.

I hope you are able to visit and good luck!

BigGreenJen,

If you have a friend/high school alum who is currently a Dartmouth student, can you just arrange or do you as a friend have to get permission from the college?

When I stayed the night at Dartmouth as a prospective student, I just made arrangements with a friend I knew on campus. Lots of people invite their friends from other colleges to spend the night, so there's no chance you'll get in trouble or anything like that.

The Admissions Office might recommend that you make your plans with them, but I don't know if it really makes a difference. If it's easier, just make plans with your friend but stop by the Admissions Office for a campus tour and course book.
