Yes, anyone accepted to Rice can go.

My daughter will be there.

ok good...haha i'm glad i found this out, because i was about to schedule a visit for right before this....hoping i'd be accepted since i was invited to Visions

This is a rather foolish question but do you really need to bring a sleeping bag to Owl Weekend? Will a blanket and a pillow (and perhaps a bedsheet) suffice? I have never needed a sleeping bag before so I never bother to get one, and I don't want to get one just for this.

Thanks.

You might be OK, if you're fine with sleeping on the floor with no cushioning surface. I would sleep fine with part of a blanket above and below me (like a prospie hot dog, or something), but other people prefer softer surfaces. Just keep in mind that you'll most likely be on the floor.

Shina,

It's true you might be sleeping on the floor, so I might see if any of your friends or people you know have one you could borrow for the weekend. If not though, you might luck out and end up staying with someone who has a couch or futon or something.

I don't think you find out who your host is (correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a year), but hosts usually have their prospies contact information and some like to email their prospies before they come. So if your host happens to email you, you can ask her if she has a sofa or if you need to bring a sleeping bag.

But anyway, you should be fine sleeping on the floor without cushioning. It's only going to be for two nights.

I doubt my mother will let me go alone...what is there for her to do the whole time? The website says something about some parent information sessions, but what about the second day?
I need to keep her occupied...she can't very well follow ME around!! :p

molly -- she can always go shopping at Rice Village or the Galleria. www.ricevillageonline.com Or she can visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts or the Houston Museum of Natural Science -- both wonderful museums close to Rice.

I will be accompanying my son to Owl Weekend also. It said on the registration information that the parents' schedule will be available Sunday afternoon. It would have been nicer if we get it a little earlier so we can make plans accordingly.

I've just booked my flight to Houston for Owl Weekend! Neither parent is coming with me (YES!) but, when my mom accompanied me for a campus visit last year, she managed to get a great deal at the Hilton and enjoyed the city's museums as well as the Galleria. So, mollypockets, have no fear, there'll be tons for your mom to do. (The neighborhood around Rice is also interesting to walk around.)
And, Westchestermom, you won't let your son miss 2 days of school?! He's a senior, he must have done well to get into Rice, so, go on, let him live a little!

Thank you for your replies, breadandbutter07, jenskate1, and sorrygrateful. :) I'm fine with sleeping on the floor, and if my host happens to contact me, I will definitely ask her if she has a sofa. If not, the floor is perfectly fine with me.

Thank you!

Oh gosh now I'm feeling a little guilty, reading Magd's message... but actually my son was concerned about missing too much school. He goes to a tough school and it's easy to fall behind. And since he's definitely slacking this term, he doesn't want to blow it. Also he'll probably be missing school to visit some other schools.

Anyway, he's coming into Houston Saturday night and has the excellent fortune to stay with blackeyedsusan's family. He'll just be leaving a tad early on Monday evening. I doubt the Monday night activities will make such a huge difference.

Hope everyone enjoys Owl Weekend- it sounds like a lot of fun!

Deleted my post because I found what I needed.

The ID number was on the mailing label on the envelope.

However, I do remember stumbling across a website on the Undergrad Admissions website that allowed you to input some of your personal info to find out what your Rice ID is.

Thanks. We didn't keep the envelope, but I found an email with the ID.

By the way, to register for Owl Weekend, it asks you if you're planning on flying in or driving. I'm flying in a few days before for my Rice/Baylor interview, so I'll actually be driving to Rice on the first day of Owl Weekend, but should I put driving on the registration page? If I do put driving, will they still allow me to use my $300 reimbursement for the flight?

No, i think you put flying- but call them, they'll tell you.

I really wanna go. But it's the same weekend I was planning on going to Carnegie Mellon.

However...there are other days to visit CMU. [:

So who all is going? Anybody excited? I am :)

Haha, and this is going to sound really lame, but I am SO EXCITED that my parents are letting me fly out by myself.
