In the acceptance packet, there was a brochure for OWL Weekend. To current students, did you go to OWL weekend? How was it and was it worth the price of a plane ticket?

Who's planning on going?

Who's planning on going?

acceptance or no acceptance...i am sneaking my butt into owl weekend...
wannabeariceowlgirl<<< got to wait till april to hear from rice
Gooooooooooooooo Rice!!!

Just wondering, when exactly is Owl Weekend?

And congrats on your acceptance =)

April 14-16

Thanks, good luck to you!

I'm planning to be there. I've heard that it's a very good time for students that go.

If you haven't visited campus before, or even if you have, Owl Weekend is a really good idea if you're even slightly considering going to Rice. You get the chance to live in the dorms for a weekend, go to classes, meet tons of other accepted students, talk with and ask any questions you have to professors, heads of departments, etc., go to Pub, last year we had the chance to see an Owls baseball game... basically you get to see what living at Rice is like for about three days. From what I've heard it's extremely influential on a lot of people's decisions about whether or not to attend (I was ED so it didn't really matter, but I had a blast!), so I'd definitely recommend it.

I second everything that deb just said. Yup, it's a lot of fun. And a whole bunch of people that I met at owl weekend are still my friends, so it's really nice for that too.

stupid question...

if im going to the vision weekend, should i go to owl weekend?

i don't think that's a stupid question. If you can afford to go to both, you might as well, they'll both be fun. But don't feel compelled, one is probably enought to give you an idea of what rice is like and help you make your decision.

Thanks, deb and jenskate!

It's tentatively on my schedule, but first I've got to see: A) where else I get in and, more importantly, B) my financial aid package.

jenskate1
thanks..

I definitely plan on going - whether or not I'm sure I'll be attending Rice at that time. It seems like it would be beneficial to get a taste of college life either way, and from what deb08 and jenskate said, OWL weekend sounds like a.. well, I was going to say hoot, but I actually want possible future classmates to think I'm somewhat cool...

I do have a question though - whats the Vision weekend?

There are some older threads on the Vision weekend.. it was for admitted students who are "ethnically diverse" (not white, not asian).

I am literally laughing out loud from your wise pun--- although, I bet it flew over some people's heads. You sound funny, and you can at least count on me to be your friend. Cool...shmool!

Bleh. Nevermind, I won't be there. Coca-Cola Scholars weekend is the same weekend and they insist that you be there or else they won't give you the money :(

i'll be there!

i'm going! fashoo :D
