Is it really known as a backdoor and looked down upon by emory college students? I was wondering if anyone had any positive or negative experiences with the school.

Thanks so much

You're going to find people who sit on both sides of the fence. You should search past threads, as this topic has been discussed and rediscussed over the years.

I think the bottom line is that you should visit the campus, meet some students, and decide for yourself.

bottom line is, once Oxford students get to Emory, they do just as well as Emory students. who cares if it's looked down upon? In the end, you get an Emory diploma, regardless of what campus you were at your first 2 years. If you get into both, choose the one at which you'll be the most comfortable.

There's always the snobby students who look down at Oxford. Big deal. Oxford is a great school and you'll come out of with life long friends and a good education. During your first two years you're taking mostly core classes, so it's not like you miss out a ton there. Emory is also very good too, but I wouldn't trade my Oxford experience for anything.

Many four year Emory students told me that they wished they had gone to Oxford as well. Many Oxford Continuees will tell you that they miss Oxford and prefer it to Emory. It really depends on what you're looking for. For instance, I went to the largest HS in my state (with 1,000 students graduating in my class) and wanted to start off at a smaller school. People tend to be really friendly and outgoing at Oxford so I really got a social aspect that was way different from my HS experience. Though I missed Oxford while I was at Emory, I think that two years is the perfect amount of time to spend there.

Also don't be worried about other schools looking down at you. Everything depends on how hard you work. I was able to get into Northwestern for graduate school, and I know plenty of other Oxford Continuess who are going to good grad. schools or have great jobs.
