Oxford Scholars

Now that Oxford Scholars Weekend is over, do any of you mind sharing any information that might be helpful for next year's Oxford Scholars and possibly this year's Emory Scholars?

How did most people dress, what were some questions asked, any helpful hints, were most people there obviously weird enough that just being kinda normal put you at an advantage, were the interviews fairly straightforward or nerve wracking, etc?

I got mine yesterday--I was a Seney Scholar. I'm disappointed--half-tuition four-year would have made Emory/Oxford affordable, but with Seney I will need to take out loans, and I'm not certain I want to do that for college. I'm also not sure that Seney's would let me extend Scholar status to Emory proper. (Definitely better than nothing, though!) I am also in the Atlanta area.

My interview was fairly straightforward--like a comfortable conversation. No one I met was obviously weird. People's dress ranged from casual to formal. I personally wore interview clothing the entire weekend. Questions I remembered were "if you had to choose between being banned from the US forever or being confined to your home state, which would you choose?" and discussions of the current presidential race. Standard interview fare, IMO.

Did any of the questions revolve around high school experiences, or what we've done in the past 4 yrs? (I'm relatively weak in this area compared to other Emory Scholars, but could talk about Presidents and hypotheticals just as well as anybody else)

And, when people say 'interview clothing', what exactly do they mean? For the guys, were most wearing say, dress slacks and a tie, or khakis and a polo, or jeans, etc?

Thanks for any info.

Not that I recall, for your first question. I don't remember hearing anyone else talking about being asked about their high school experiences, either.

Honestly, it varied! There were a few guys in rumpled t-shirts/jackets and jeans, and there were some in dress slacks with a tie. shrug When I personally say interview clothing, I mean the sort of clothing I would expect to wear to a job interview, i.e. fairly formal. Because the scholar letter asked you to wear interview clothing, I would encourage you to dress fairly formally on your weekend.

whoah new website

The Emory-ATL campus letter actually said 'nice casual', but I don't think overdressing is as big an issue as underdressing, so thanks for your advice.

John: yeah, I noticed the site a day or so ago too. It's looks 1000x better than the old one. I'm really surprised such a wealthy school as Emory had kinda amateurish design on the website before, which is for the vast majority of people, among the first impressions of a school. It'd be worth tens of thousands of dollars to have a good looking website. It's very much a part of their 'brand' image.

emory is wealthy, oxford is not lol

Oh, really? I haven't had a chance to look at it. Is it less confusing to navigate than the old one? One of the things I have absolutely disliked about both Emory and Oxford since becoming interested in both of them is the general feel disorganization I've gotten, particularly from the main campus. (Oxford Scholars weekend did a good job of combating that impression, mind.)

I got deans as well. full tuit. pretty happy about it. I wonder who got the full rides (congrats).

Could some more of you guys that got the oxford scholars letter let me know your stats? I really want to know wat i can expect for mine… :)
