@UFOnline oh…I know there is no major “Pre-med” but when I was filling out my application and it asked for major it had a special selection of you were interested in doing “pre-medicine”, which is why I am confused.
@pauroyjj You are correct, there is no PaCE Marketing major. This means that your daughter will not be able to transition to campus in this major. To accept the PaCE major she would have to pick one of the majors in PaCE. As you note, the closest is Business.
@bkianka The majors you can pick on the freshman app do not exactly match in some cases what are “real” majors at UF (don’t ask, I have no clue why this is). Did you pick “pre-medicine”?
@UFOnline I did choose pre-medicine…The problem is that I should have 45 credits when graduating from high school… If I have to do two semester through PaCE, I would have to go a semester into a major that does not satisfy the Medical school requirements.
Thank you for the information.
Just wondering when the student finally transitions into the university, will they still be considered a paCE student and have to stick with their major until they graduate or are they treated like actual UF students and are able to switch and change majors?
We have Florida Prepaid 4 year plan and one year dorms (dorm was planned for freshman year). How does being in the PaCe Program impact this investment? You have said there is a 25% discount on tuition and we save on fees. Does this mean we lose the value of the portion that would have covered the residential fees and university fees (basically It would just cover the online tuition amount and we lose the value of the rest)? Or can we use Florida Prepaid towards study abroad programs, etc? It seems like we are losing the full value of our investment and having to pay more to provide a “full college experience” for our kids in this case if we have to pay out of pocket for buses, apartment living and not getting access to all of the services and/or facilities residential students do. It would be good if we can use the potentially lost value of the prepaid towards other options in the pre-transition period (before 60 hours obtained) like study abroad or classes at other colleges, etc. Or if we choose to live in Gainesville Fall 2015 in an apartment would the Florida Prepaid cover a portion of that like a dorm? Just trying to crunch the numbers…
So essentially if I wanted to major in Finance and be a Pre-Law student, I’d need to major in something like Business for PaCE, and then try and change majors once on campus (but the change would not be guaranteed)?
@bkianka I would highly suggest that you talk to a UF Advisor ASAP (you do not have to be a student at UF to do this). Contact CLAS Academic Advising.
@pauroyjj Hi. Once on campus a PaCE student is not “in” PaCE anymore and is a residential student. Residential students can change majors, as you note. Changing of majors on campus is done in consultation with your academic advisor.
@MDugg9 You are correct that while in PaCE and also the major you transition to campus in cannot be Finance in the Business school since it is not a PaCE major (there is a Finance major in CALS in PaCE). Once you are on campus, just like a residential student, you can switch your major. However, please be aware that all majors have tracking requirements that must be met to take a given major. Also, once you are on campus you will have at least 60 credits (requirement of PaCE). 120 credits are needed to graduate. If you go over then you may run into something called “excess hours”, which will result in each credit costing more than you normally would pay. This is a discussion that you will need to have with your advisor.
Is it possible to join UF clubs as a PaCe student? For instance, our daughter is interested in the Theater Strike Force Club.
Can students have the option of completing their 60 credits at another institution and then being able to transition into UF after 60 credits?
@ProudGrad2015. Yes, PaCE students can join clubs IF they are not supported by student fees, which PaCE students will not be paying. I would check with the club (or even the College) that your daughter is interested in.
@teremuniz Thanks for the question. You will need to spend at least 15 hours in UF Online if you accept the PaCE offer. You can take courses at other colleges, just like residential students can. However, if you decide to take courses outside of UF it will be very important to talk to your UF Advisor to make sure that they will transfer. Also, large number of courses take outside of UF, depending on the timing of these courses, can affect your standing at UF and potentially any aid you may receive. Your advisor can help you with all these potential issues.
Hello, what percentage of applicants are offered admission into the PaCE program.
@rocketboi10 3,118 PaCE offers were made (from ~30,000 applicants).
@UFOnline Last question…do you think there is a greater chance of having a successful appeal for residential if we were admitted to the PaCE program?
@bkianka All appeals are done by Admissions. Sorry, you will have to ask them what their policy is regarding PaCE offers and appeals.
Who should we contact in order to appeal? Haven’t been able to find this online.
@MDugg9 you should contact Admissions at UF.
