Awww... You guys will do fine. Its just me. You see, I have EWD (emotional weeping disorder). It only happens when I get near KP & see those kids. Doc seems to think I have issues with letting them grow out of Plebe-hood and should perhaps stop telling people that they are all mine as well. Not sure there is a treatment for what I have. Chocolate seems to help.

I believe I caught EWD from you Jamz I have all the symptoms and I do not believe a cure has been found.

These kids are going to have more moms then they know what to do with LOL!

At least they have diagnosis.....EWD..I love it! :)

LOL And they really do hate it. Its like they go "Ohhh noooo, there's a Mom! Don't make eye contact & keep moving!" I found out though that they can't run faster than us.

Nothing can run faster than a Mom on a mission, he he he, :D

Just to let you know, our son carried flag (standard) in color guard last year and did not let us know till he walked out onto the gym floor...it was his little surprise for us...so neat...I was sitting next vadm' wife and she practicallly had to hold me up...big pollen again....anyway I am not sure when he heard what he was doing...I tend to think there was not so much notice

I agree with all others...the beat retreat is awesome and not to miss, but too long and hot a night for older grandparents I would think. Besides the state flags the plebes carry about 50 us flags....everyother flag is us/state...so about 100 other plebes participate plus the plebes that do color guard and band.

RE: Finding a Greek restaurant on Long Island...

Especially for 2010BandCoMom, heres a great website hailed as Long Island's most Popular: www.longisland.com
click-on "Entertainment", then click-on "Restaurants" (about 6 Greek restaurants pop up depending on the zipcode). Just hope the restaurant we make reservations for on Saturday nite, WITH A VERY HUNGRY PLEBE, isn't booked up because now you have the insider's guide ;).

I thought I was actually going to be wearing DRY make-up for this event!!! Oh no!!! Not crying again!!!

Do we have to pay for the PC's to go to Beat Retreat? I sent in my form without paying for him, but just assumed that he would be there!!

If I recall the form said that we do not pay for PC's for anything. Or maybe Jamzmom told me that......but no I don't think we pay for the PCs.

The form says
all meals are provided for Midshipmen, so do not order for them"
I can see how this could be confusing as it does not mention the events themselves but no, you do not pay for your Plebes.

So I need some advice from those of you who have been to a previous Parent's Weekend. Do they give us a brochure with everything that is going on, or is it better to plan before we go? Someone said earlier that we just go to the first class when we get there on Friday. Is that how we do it? Help!!

Being from a faraway rural state our only real goal at last year's Parents' Weekend was to spend as much time with our P/C (soon to become Plebe on Acceptance Day). We went to class with him, we ate a meal with him and as soon as possible after Plebe Muster after the football game we got him away from the Academy. When we couldn't be with him we cruised the grounds and visited with other parents. Sure, you don't want to miss the Beat Retreat, the Acceptance Day ceremony or the football game --- but that's where your kid will be anyway. Go with a single mission --spend time with your child. All the tours, speeches, etc. are just details that don't matter. Don't worry about any schedule but where you kid is going to be and you will have a very great Parent's Weekend.

LOL that was my plan... time with the boy. I bought tickets to everything, but figured if we don't use them that's okay too!

To PJMom2011: I checked out the link that you gave me. It is great!! Thanks

Someone w a USMMA decoder ring help me with these dress code statements from the 2007 Parents Weekend Calendar of Events:

-Dress for Friday is informal: e.g. slacks and sport shirts for men; dresses, skirts or slacks for women.
-Dress for Saturday is casual. Low-heeled shoes are recommended.

Earlier posts have stated that Beat Retreat can get rather warm and to wear shorts on friday evening - comments from the pack?

khakis and a polo or collared shirt are just fine for the whole thing.

And yes, Beat Retreat is ALWAYS very HOT and usually very HUMID too! But it's worth it, just dress appropriately.

If I bring my own food up on P/W do you think I will have a problem getting a table since tables are pretty limited by the waterfront. Will the hall next door lend me table and chairs if picnic tables are not available?

There are lots more tables set up on P/W than what's regularly there. You won't have a problem finding one at all.

Thank you kpmom06.
