Share your experience during Parents' Weekend at USNA! Friday was certainly a day to remember--Bancroft Hall, accompanying mids to classes, King Hall (worst meal I've ever witnessed--I could only stomach the applesauce!), formal parade, friends, family, dinner at the Chart House for us. I saw Cindy McCain @ the formal parade and the senator in the press box at the football game. Weren't we lucky with the beautiful weather!

And your personal tastes in food are such that you allowed this to ruin a perfectly good weekend?

We had a very good time. Great seats at the football game - with good game. Nice Company tailgate. Meet lots of friends. Formal parade was good. Noon formation always fun to watch. Priceless was going to class, Mid enjoyed the rents accompanying him to class and was ready to introduce us to everyone!

King Hall - well I have to agree with the above. Seen and eaten better. Obviously, none of us let it "ruin" a great weekend. It was about being in King Hall not about the food but really they could do better. Funny thing was at the Parents Club Conference Thursday the Supe admitted that the food needed improvement! Next renovation - the kitchen.

chiming in a little late-

arrived late thursday nite- long ride down with the aroma of several buffallo-chicken-pizza's from Rosa's in the back of the SUV- quick visit with our mid, who had his hands full with a paper due the next morning- but glad to get the pizzas - and lots of hands to help him carry them up to the wardroom!

we left- had a wonderful visit with other company parents, thanks to one of them who lives locally and opened her home to host all of us! So nice to put names with faces- only I found it beyond challenging recognizing the Mids from their first names- I still have those last names in my head! It was like learning who they were all over again! A good night sleep on a heavenly bed..... most welcome!!!!

up bright and early.... well, make that early- not so sure how "bright"....where is Starbucks when you need one??!!!

mid "kindly requested" we not attend his first class- apparently had a presentation to make, and having mom and dad in the audience was out of the question!

Rest of the classes- awesome! Until we got to Spanish- apparently the 16 mids break up into groups of 4- so leave it to our Mid to surround himself with all the midshipwomen in the class- all blonde- go figure- why do i continue to be surprised?

Lunch in Bancroft- passable- but did pass on the salad- but the pie was excellent!

Visit to the room- will stop sending care packages for awhile as there is enough to feed the entire company stuffed into his locker that it is a wonder anything else fits! He better start feeding more or eating more!

Added our own touch to our Mids room- a nice desk chair- hoping he will spend more time in it and not with the blondes that seem to be everywhere- and why is it that they all come by to visit his room? I give up-

Roomates- he has got the absolutely best roomate in the whole of USNA! He is a ray of sunshine from the minute he gets up to the minute he hits the rack- and keeps going and going and going..... lots of laughs!

And met the other prisoner from USAFA that is on loan for the semester- impression is first-rate- although did not know they offered psychology as a major out there in Colorado- hmmmmm-

Did not make it to the Supe's brief, but then again, got to hear him over the summer at BGO training, so opted instead for EE!

Just when I thought the day was "over," (at least my feet were hoping it was so!) we shuffled over to Lejugne for swimming- 10 laps from what I counted- in those tan uniforms- our Mid borrowed a "smaller size" from his roomate so he would not get bogged down dragging extra water- not realizing that a smaller shirt means no lifting hands beyond shoulder height to get a full stroke in! The end result was some foundering-on-your-back-quasi-upside-down backstrok- thing, but not anything recognizable by swimming standards! He finished ahead of time, so I guess whatever floats your boat is acceptable!

Surely the day was done after that- right!
Dress parade-
I LOVE those uniforms! How wonderful was that!

Finally- Day OVER!
Mid took a 10 minute "power nap" and then it was off the yard-

Dinner- out- all good-

Fastforward to Saturday, and some shopping in the midstore (as if I need another thing! ) still managed to fill up 2 big bags worth, and then some!

Football- what not to like! What a game! Perfect!
Seats in the upper level, on the 45 yd line and it seemed, right above the mids! How did you like those Osprey's!!!
Tailgates- before and after- company tailgate, maryland tailgate, friends tailgate, parent club tailgate- all good! Oh- and finally found '69's tent, only a certain '69er was MIA!!! Go figure!!!

Sunday mass- breakfast-COFFEE- some shopping (as if we did not do enough of that already)- can't remember all what we did, but know we were busy doing it- throw in 3 rughby matches, a visit to the thunder chickens, totally missed the ships and the sub- my "guys" teamed up with another dad-mid pair for a round of golf- (will not mention the trip to the laundry- it never fails!)
Finally headed home around 7pm- no traffic on the NJ TPKE (how did that happen!)- so home in bed by 2am- 4 hours of sleep and that alarm clock starts ringing off the table (think i wore out the snooze button!)-

what a great weekend! Hope all of you got tons of hugs in and had great visits with your Mids!

oh- and met the new gf- another blonde- what a surprise! :o

^^^great narratives NativeTexan and Navy2010! Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time! As a teacher I found it so hard to NOT participate in the classroom discussions! Anyone else have that issue???
