If I'm going to be going to UCSD, I will need to know some good, plentiful, free parking near campus. I considered Scripps Aquarium, but I don't know what happens if I leave the car there after the aquarium closes, and there's a huge hill to bike up. Are there nearby shopping centers that don't ticket for parking all day? Someone mentioned Gliderport, how's that? There's also a concrete parking lot nere thereis that free? Or does it belong to the nearby Salk Institute building...and is it ok to park there anyway? :)

There is a huge sign right in front of Gliderport that says “No parking after 8pm - Tow at subjects expense”. I’ve never heard of anyone getting towed but the sign is scary. But to answer your question, no man. Just pay the $60 a month like everyone else…

Keep in mind the Salk Institute do get ****ed if we park on their lots (true story)…

Just buy a pass…

You’re probably better off to buy a pass. There are some neighborhoods near UCSD, but I’d imagine they have restrictions to student parking. I could see parking down Gilman somewhere, but again - not sure if there are parking restrictions. Unless you park somewhere on the street in more of the UTC area, but you’d have to walk a ways. The immediate area surrounding UCSD doesn’t really have a lot of parking options.

ETA - if you’re really determined, I suppose you could find a place near a shuttle stop then just ride the shuttle to campus. There is one in my neighborhood & typically lots of street parking.

You can park at blacks beach and walk to campus.

Yeah I guess it just depends on how far you’re willing to walk. I kind of wonder about parking in the neighborhood above blacks beach though. I would be paranoid about leaving my car there, but I guess that’s what you do for beach access. (Unless there is another access point I’m not thinking of. I have always accessed it from that neighborhood & walked down the path).

i plan on living in the village at UCSD, and i want to bring my car. what kind of parking permit would i need to buy from UCSD? i also heard there’s not a parking structure for the village, so where would i be able to park? Is overnight parking a pain at UCSD?

@blkbox: You’d just need to purchase a regular UCSD parking permit. Correct, there is not a parking structure for the village, but you can park anywhere else on campus. There’s no rule against overnight parking (except for the Gillman structure, I think)

blkbox: the village students park their cars in the pangea lot (about a 5-7 minute walk from the village).

@lmendoza:thanks! i notice your location is Mission Viejo. did you transfer from saddleback college? i’m transferring fall 2011

blkbox: yeah boyeeee!! And g’luck dude!
