Parking Pass on move-in day

A parking permit for the long-term parking lot is issued when we move in on our designated time and date. My question is what if we have to get something from target, etc. and then come back to the campus, can we still park at the designated spot even we went beyond the time allowed?

Most likely they'll move you to another lot. The designated parking for move in is a pretty small area closest to the you're moving into. The designated area is basically for you to load and unload things from the car into a cart or dolly and get it up into the room. If you want to stick around longer to set things up in the room then they usually ask you to move your car after unloading if it is busy. I remember when I first moved in as a freshman my folks stuck around a bit to help set up my room, grab something to eat, walk around campus, and we didn't have a problem.

the pass says my unloading area is south end of Lot 11, and long term parking is north end of Lot 11. why would they have people unload at the SOUTH end when the entrance is at the NORTH end!? they want us to lug our crap all the way up to the entrance and then lug it all the way back down to hedrick?!

do they provide a dolly or cart of some sort to help us move in?

yeah they have carts they let you "rent"

VTEC, are you sure?

http://www.ucla.edu/map/map_ucla.pdf shows the NORTH end to be extremely far from Hedrick. But if you wish, you can always unload at the NORTH end cause no one would care. :)

yep. this is what it says on my parking pass:
HOUSING MOVE IN
- UNLOADING PASS -
(Temporary Parking Permit)
Short-term parking lot:
Lot 11, South End
Long-term parking lot:
Lot 11, North End

well i've never really been in Lot 11. i assume theres some kind of stair/ramp/elevator at the south end right? shrug

Oh... :o Misread what you said. I thought you were saying entrance to Hedrick. :D I doubt that they have an elevator. But stairs wouldn't be too helpful... Hopefully ADA did its job and added a ramp!

Lot 11 is huge. You'll definitely be able to tell N from S.

you have to rent the carts?! for how much? ucla really likes to screw students...

So many people have jacked those carts. Two people on my street have them just sitting on their balconies.

So I suspect that the "rental" thing is somewhat necessary.

Oh come on, screw students? Everything has its costs.

And by rental, VTEC means providing security by temporarily depositing an ID card (Bruin, license, etc.).

yeah hence "rent" in quotations. they just need some kind of picture ID for you to "rent" it. license, costco card, bruin card, etc.

haha thats fine then. i can part with my bruin card for a bit!

Lot 11 is pretty big. There is no elevator there on the south end but definitely stairs, and I believe there is a ramp somewhere. The south end is definitely much closer to Hedrick than the north end.

Bad idea to part your BruinCard. You won't be able to get up the elevators and such unless you get other people to do it for you.

Yea, usually people put their drivers license on deposit (they might even ask for it specifically). Guarantees that people will want to come back and get it.
