Yeah, my roommate had me buy one for her today in PSD while she was gone.

Where are you living 2+2? PSA is in the boondocks pretty much, unless you're in Parkside. PSB is right by the Lyon Center (gym), Cafe 84, and a hub of life, so it's that bad. If you're in the dorms, you'll have a little walk, but its not terrible. Luckily our campus is small.

No, you can get parking as a freshman. The problem is most freshmen aren't yet thinking about things like parking when parking permits go on sale, and the on-campus permits sell out quickly. But you can probably still get Parking Center, PS1, or Shrine parking. (or buy someone else's on campus permit if you can find one)

afterhours, yes I think so, but I also think you actually have to be part of a carpool to get it. Not that it makes much of a difference anyway, because there aren't very many carpool spots in the parking center in the first place, and if you enter during non-commute hours its not too hard to find a regular spot on the lower floors.

Oh by the way, I'd try to get PS1 or Shrine before Parking Center. They're closer and don't have a freeway between them and campus.

If I'm most likely living in Conquest's Tropicana apartments, is on-campus parking absolutely necessary?
[/quote]

Nope. Tropicana is less than a 5 minute bike ride to campus. Personally I would get a Parking Center pass and leave my car there as it is more secure than parking your car on the street and just bike to campus.

If you use your car on a daily basis then I would ditch the pass and look for street parking because taking the tram to the Parking Center everyday is a major hassle. Just remember to move your car on street sweeping days and don't leave any valuables in the car.

Shrine permits are available at the Shrine Theater parking garage. There is a form to fill out and you can write a check to pay. I missed out on getting an on-campus lot permit last time around and found out about the Shrine at orientation (week before school started). It's basically across the street from the entrance to PSD (way closer than the UPC).

The shrine is right across the street from parking center D. If you feel safe walking to D, then you should feel safe walking to Shrine. It's much safer than walking to the parking center.

Also, it's worth mentioning, although Shrine parking is a good option, it can also be a big pain in the ass when there are big events lilke the Emmys held at the Shrine.

Lastly, people post on thefacebook and stuff like that about parking permits. That's the only way I have ever heard about that type of stuff.
