I will probably be going down to Irvine quite a bit, and am not exactly relishing the thought of a minimum 6 hours round trip on public transit. It sounds like freshmen can't get parking anymore (although my google-fu is weak, so I've found contradictory info), but is there any non-campus parking in the area that's even remotely affordable?

Aha, the Consortium has zipcars! Problem solved :)

Excellent. Because you are right, freshmen are no longer permitted to have cars.

And because parking in the Village is a crapshoot.

So, as visiting parents, how should we handle parking? ANd how crazy are things on moving-in-day?

Moving in day wasn’t crazy at all. The freshmen move in a few days earlier than the returning students, so we just parked in the lot at HMC. There was plenty of room, probably because the other students weren’t there. Overall, I recall the day as being fairly well organized. Coming from the East Coast we had shipped a bunch of stuff and it was in the mailroom. The rest of the day was spent running over to the Target. We had dinner with our son, and then left when they told us to. Then I cried. Students can store their stuff at Mudd over the summer, so after the intial move in, it has always been up to our son to get himself moved in.
