Parking

If I were to have a car at NYU, would the dorms offer me some sort of free parking space and if not, are there cheap garages for nyu students? What would these costs be like?
I know people say its not neccesary to have a car but if I can bring mine and keep it just for convenience, i'd like to.

Nope. Parking in NYC is ludicrously expensive. I believe it costs like $400-$500 a month just to park a car in NYC. Public transportation is pretty much the only way to go man.

^agreed. Having a car doesn’t make any sense. It’s extremely expensive and NYU doesn’t have a designated parking area. There’s subways all around though and you basically have to get around through public transportation.

I’m keeping my current car at home… or my parents are just going to sell it.

@ OP. If you really want to use your car, you can keep it parked in a cheap garage in Queens or Brooklyn (can’t give you any specific ones). However it’s still kinda pointless doing this lol.

Having a car in Manhattan is a ridiculous idea. Typically, if you want to go somewhere, unless it’s late at night, the subway will always be faster. Especially during rush hour. I promise, a car in Manhattan isn’t a convenience. It’s a hassle.

thanks! I’ll probs not get a car then

Most parking garages in manhattan charge between $20 - $30 a night for your car. Very uneconomical unless you have an endless supply of money on hand.
