Parking

How is parking at Davis ? Is getting a spot generally easy or is it a pain ? How early should I be there before my first class starts to assure I am on time ?

TIA !

Expensive.

Most of the students bike in.
My dd had her car at her apartment and either biked or took the Davis bus. It is free with your school ID and it drops you at the MU.

I agree with @“aunt bea” that parking is expensive and very difficult to find. My son also left his car at his apartment and biked in or took the bus. If you have to commute, then the earlier the better to find parking depending upon your class schedule.

And it just keeps on getting even more expensive… /sigh

The monthly parking permits increased by another 5 bucks this year to $50/month. (It used to be around 30-35 when I was a freshman and that was only a few years ago.) I commute from Sac and I usually just park in the lot near Mondavi. There’s always parking available there. The only downside is that it’s a bit farther away from the rest of campus, but even then it’s just a 10-15 minute walk from the Silo.

If you go before 9 am, or even 10, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a spot in one of the parking structures like the one near the ARC. After that, you’re kinda out of luck. If you don’t have class until after 5pm, you can also park in the “A” parking lots (students are only allowed to park in the “C” lots before then).

It’s actually terrible. If you go during peak class times, like the afternoons or starting from 10AM, you’ll be driving around for awhile finding parking. At night is much easier, or early, early morning.
