I heard parking is quite horrible at UMich...is this totally true, I'm sure there are spots...aren't there?

It's totally true. Are you talking about parking during orientation or freshman year? I don't think you're allowed to drive in the first yr.

Parking is horrible at almost all univerities. Think about it. On average, 30% of the people at a university are either faculty or staff. Those all have their own parking. Can you imagine how few spots are left for undergrads? I do not recommend cars to undergrads, but if you are going to get your car, use it to drive around town and to other places...but not to go to class.

Streetside parking is rather restrictive in Ann Arbor as well, and the AA police literally wait outside people's parking meters to expire so they can write them tickets. I don't know anybody here with a car who hasn't gotten at least on ticket...that can get expensive. I'd also highly recommend against a car.

almost forgot...if your parents are coming to parent orientation and they drive to EQ...tell them to use the parking structure and not the stree parking. They more than likely will be ticketed if they use the metered parking by EQ.

KB

Parking isn't bad at all if you know what you're doing; i survived an entire semester last year with my car and didn't get a single ticket. And I used it quite a bit during the week. There are tons of residential neighborhoods near campus you can park in without getting tickets. As for long-term parking, you just need to get an orange parking pass, which is around $50 for the entire year. There are several orange lots on campus, but none on central campus unfortunately. So, you just need to take the bus to the parking lot to get your car, but that is increadibly easy to do. If you want to be able to go to places like detroit, windsor, etc..... or even places in AA far from campus, I would def. bring a car.

Thanks, I'm planning on bringing a car if i go to Umich, so any specific places I should park

is the orange parking pass available to freshman? I read a site that claimed it was only available to junior/seniors.

Same here, I heard that too
