Part-Time Student Affect UCLA/UCB Admission?

Hello,

This is my third year attending CC. For this fall, I am taking 2 classes (approx 7-9 units) since they are the remaining prerequisites I need to transfer for my major. I was wondering if being a part-time student will affect my admissions to UCLA/UCB. Or should I take a random course just to meet the full-time student requirement? Would that look better to the UCs?

Anyone in the same situation?

Thank you in advance for your opinions :)

Hi COOK1E. I had the same question for my cc counselor because I am applying to both those schools this fall and would only need to take 7 units to finish my pre-reqs this spring. He said he doubted they would care but he wasn’t sure. I’m gonna take a couple classes for fun though just to keep full time status. Hope this helps

Berkeley and UCLA are not going to care. Some UCs that TAG will required full-time enrollment; so if you plan to TAG with a backup, check the requirements with that campus.

Some concerns that may come up: 1) if you are taking two classes and you receive one B and one C, then you may not fulfill the GPA requirement for the term (less than 3.0, which is a red flag for almost all UCs); 2) you may want to mention in your personal statement that you intend to quit working or go down to part-time as to assure the UCs you will focus on your school work when you get there.
