I am planning on attending UCSD in the fall, and I just got my IGETC Certification from my community college. The letter says that I am only partially certified. I have met every requirement, except I turned in an equivalence form for Area1 GroupB English Composition for a class I completed at a previous 4-year university. Every box has completed checked, except the area B has a checkmark under partial.

I'm not sure what this means for my admission to UCSD. Am I at risk of getting it revoked? I had significant reason to believe I would be granted equivalence, as the classes are listed as equivalent in an articulation between my old university and my community college. I am going to go in to talk to a counselor on Monday about this.

Thanks

PS I did a TAG if this is relevant.

I believe you need to have full IGETC certification if you completed a TAG for UCSD. Go on assist.org and see if the class is equivalent to the one you need to complete. If it’s equivalent, then you won’t have a problem. Go talk to your counselor ASAP.

^ The class is not on assist since it was taken at a private institution. The class I took was at University of Southern California… it was listed as equivalent to English 1B in the articulation agreement between USC and my community college (foothill).

For TAG you need full IGETC

^ So is it 100% that my admission will be rescinded if I cannot get my community college to see where I’m coming from and grant me full completion of IGETC?

You MUST have full IGETC certification if you are tranfering using IGETC. Resolve the issue with your CC ASAP.

^ I am going to go in on tuesday, and again on wednesday when the specific person who did this equivalence evaluation is back in. Should I call UCSD and notify them of what my current situation is? I think the partial certification was sent to them when it was completed.

Urgh I’m freaking out right now.

Okay so Im applying for this fall (december), do I need all the classes to finished for IGETC. Because I plan on finishing them in the Spring, so can I still fill out the tag form??

you can complete IGETC the spring 2012 before you transfer in fall 2012. You fill out the tag form in sept

just a quick question. if i already did all the class requirements for the IGETC at my CC, does my CC automatically send a certification to the school im transferring to, or do I need to manually request it somehow?

@UCHopeful12
except for the two English courses and one math course have to be completed by the end of fall 2011.

No. You need to fill out a form at your CC.

So update:

I called UCSD and told them about my situation and said that a partial certification was sent, and I believed that a mistake was made, so they left a note by my account not to rescind immediately when they see partial certification.

I still havent heard anything from my community college, and won’t until tuesday or wednesday. Either they made a mistake, or I guess I’m going to lose my SD admission. Anyone have any experience using classes from another college for IGETC and the equivalence process? I’m trying to figure out where/if mine went wrong.

Final Update: Turns out my community college staff is incompetent as suspected, and did not even see the equivalence form. Now that they have I will receive full certification.
