Party scene

So i checked out admit day today. I saw enough things that I liked to get me to send in my SIR, but I also saw a few things I didn't like - mainly the look of the party scene. I talked to a few students that attend UCSD, and I also have talked to my brother's friends that have attended UCSD, and they all told me there is basically no partying at UCSD. "If you want to party, then you go to SDSU," seemed to be the popular answer.

my questions:
Is there a party scene at UCSD? I don't mean the parties at SDSU that UCSD kids attend.
Does anyone else feel the same way that I do?
Are the parties at UCSD all fraternity related?
*Anyone attending TMC?
*
***Obviously the academics outweigh any party scene, but come on now.

Bottom line:

There are some INSANE study parties that go down on weekend nights

Nope, there isn't much of a party scene here.

But it's actually really easy to find parties if that's what you want to do.

They key to partying is being involved in stuff. Student organizations are the way people come together...so if you wanna party, join student orgs. If you
re an admit, don't lower your standards and go to state. I'm not saying it's a terrible school, but im sure it would feel like high school all over again -_-. and it looks like a high school....no offense state people.

Yes, I've seen quite a few parties here. And by party, I mean loud music booming from a suite, random people show up, beer pong is played, and everyone chats. I've never checked out SDSU's party scene so I can't compare.

I actually did some research on this subject on admit day, i just sorta walked through all the sixth college dorms/suites or whatever and asked students, my conclusion was...

The answers I got to my question were really varied and I think it depended on who I asked, the people who looked more social were far more upbeat about the social seen and the people I saw playing PS2 were really pessimistic and said there was no party scene at all...

There are definitely parties to go to IF you look, it is much easier if you get affiliated with a frat/club/sport...also, Tijuana is like 20 minutes away if you know somebody with a car, and theres always SDSU parties if your willing to drive there

yeah, the party scene is lacking a little, but you can definitely find one everyday if you got the right connections. also, if you really wanna party everyday just join a frat and you'll enjoy it-but make sure it doesnt go so overboard than your grades start dropping

we gotta create a party scene. im gonna bring a keg into my dorm first few nights of school if anyone wants to come

Ohhh I'll be there :) I'm in ERC, where are you at?

Psssh if there is a lack of a party scene, us new freshmen will start it up. Look out UCSD, here we come...

p.s who's with me?? heh heh

im with you. revelle dorms miss blue sky

did i hear keg in rasta's room????? im down

I've got contacts for hookah :)

hahaha.

count me in. one more revelle party doer. lol

The people who say there isn't a party scene are the people who are too lazy to look. If you want to party, there are parties almost EVERYWHERE, except like BYU and Bob Jones University. I personally am not into partying, but I don't really get bored here.

Dude, I've been to both BYU and UCSD and there is a much broader and active social life in Provo at BYU than UCSD. Maybe they're not all getting drunk at BYU, but Provo is a vibrant college town (ranked #1 by USNews a few years ago) and puts the social life in La Jolla to shame.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that when people talk about "party scene", it definitely includes getting drunk and being wild in general. I wasn't talking about overall social scene or vibrancy of surrounding area - I was talking about what I believed the topic was originally asking: parties. If BYU has a big party scene, then fine, I'll retract that statement. But as a Mormon institution, it didn't strike me as a university that would really promote what was being talked about in this topic - that's the only reason I mentioned it as a comparison.

That's fair. Yes, BYU is a cold stone sober campus, with maybe a few keg parties here and there. Socially, BYU is more vibrant, but like you said that is a completely different topic.

u just have to meet the right ppl and get into the party scene, plus greek is always a good option. i'm pledging sigma chi and love it. the frat system is so much different from other schools, in a good way
