I apologize for all the questions, but I'm very seriously considering UNC. How big is partying at UNC? I know obviously at any school especially a public school, partying is huge. But is there more to do than just that? One thing that tunrs me off from my state school (UIUC) is that it seems like all there is to do on cold friday nights is party. I'm not anti-party, I drink rarely, but its far far from a hobby. I'd like there to be other options when I"m not in the mood. How much does partying dominate the UNC social life?

i rarely drink and I very rarely go to parties, only because I'm either busy with school work or what not. UNC does have plenty of parties but it is not a party school. If you do go here don't be scared during the first few weeks (aka WOW) where there are a lot of parties, mostly by frats and sororities trying to advertise. Its said that the weekend begins on thursday night, which is annoying for all of us who have friday morning classes.
You will find plenty of studets here who do take partying very seriously, but there is plenty of other social things to do at carolina than partying and to be honest theres been times when I've just hung around dorms with friends bored on a weekend night and theres been times when i was walking around at night on weekends with friends wondering where the hell is everyone.
So basically you can have fun at carolina but don't get the idea that this is a party school.
