Hey all,

So as (I hope) all of you know, cal grant stuff is due on Monday. So of course, I'm scrambling to get this done last minute, and I have a question for PCC students- do you know if our school is one of the schools that automatically sends in our GPA? If not, how do we get our GPA verified?

I couldn't get a straight answer at the admin offices (of course) and I ran out of time. Me standing there waiting on them to decide to wake up and answer me = money down the drain for me. Sigh.

try the fin/aid office.
that’s where i found out about SBCC and Pierce.

what do you mean by Calgrant ‘stuff’?
to my knowledge, all we’ve got to do is fill out FAFSA and make sure the gpa verification goes through. is there anything else?

If you never signed up for Cal Grant before theres a high chance that your CC did not send your GPA to the commission. You should grab a Cal Grant GPA verification form and fill it out and have your CC fill it out.

If you want to make sure your GPA is in then call the commission or visit the Cal Grant site.

i was in the same situation as you on thursday. from what i found out, if you have i believe over 40 units completed, some schools our automatically submitting your gpa electronically, which was the case for me. i never applied for cal grant under community college though, i initially applied for it back when i was in high school, i just didn’t use it for CC. i feel for you, because it was hell trying to get a hold of a counselor and financial aid to help me out.

ps i advise you to go at the very first hour financial aid or counselors are available, because if you hit them up during the late morning and/or afternoon you’ll have to wait to get their attention.

oh and although i dont attend pcc, i called in which was faster than waiting in line to get attention from someone. over the phone i essentially got to cut through the lines. the counselor told me directly to ask admissions to see if they submitted my gpa or not, because it should be written in their computer system.

I called registration and records at my ccc and they told me they had automatically sent it, I had never been registered for it for high school so I guess they are just on the ball.

Okay, so I made an account on the Cal Grant website, and it turns out that PCC automatically sent in my GPA (nice). But that brings another question…

For my last year awards, it says that I was awarded $1,500. I never saw any of that - I didn’t even know that my GPA was sent in. Anyone have any insight on this?

I un-bumped my own thread. Bumping to the top… :)

if you paid for your classes and there was a balance on your account pcc should have sent you this money. otherwise i guess it just wasn’t used?

grey if you have that on your account call the commission to clear it up. The same thing happened to me. This could affect if you are entitled to entitlement or competitive awards. Unless this is a part of the grants you get if your family annual income is low.
