Something on my mind is bothering me for past few months. How does for the AP “system” for payment work? I know it differs from one school to the other, but I know for sure that in NYC, specifically in Brooklyn (or in most boroughs) schools make the students pay for the exam. I am an uprising Sophomore and my friends who took Human Geography last year had to pay the full amount for the exam. However, there were some people who didn’t pay for the test but their explanation was a bit … weird. Like one didn’t pay because he was taking too many AP exams. The other one said that he used a waiver (I thought this was only possible for the SAT/SAT II exams). So my question is that is it possible for a person who is poor to not pay for the AP exam? (I come from a family that is somewhat poor).
@darkcrescendo At my school, we pay a total check amount for the tests we take. If you cannot afford the test, talk to your school about getting a fee waiver.
There is no fee waiver. There is a possibility of a fee reduction, as outlined here. Waivers are given for the STS’s and subject tests because they are a requirement for colleges; AP tests are not.
In some schools/districts, the school picks up the tab for AP tests; in others it’s the responsibility of the student/parent.
