Paying for College. bank statement? statement of financial support? FAFSA?

I'm a senior in High School right now.

I've applied to a few colleges already. Most have replied back to be asking for a bank statement and statement of financial support. What's the bank statement? Do they want my bank statement or my parents'? Is it the thing you get every month in the mail or is it a letter from the bank? What's a statement of financial support? Who do I get one from?

Also, one university asked me to send a document from an official saying I have $55,000 USD for education. My parent don't have that kind of money in a single account. They have a few different accounts with a little money in each..what do I do?

Stats: Living in USA, but Canadian citizen. Have applied for permenant residency.

Yes, the bank statements come from the bank…or you can usually print one online. Did the school send you a form to use for the financial support statement? If not, do a search on their website or google for a sample.

The $55K doc is usually needed in order for you to obtain a student visa…since you’re already in the US on a visa I’m not sure that’s really necessary. I would call/email the school on that one. But if they still require it, it’s permissible to use loans to guarantee payment.

Since it sounds like your folks don’t have $55K per year to spend, have you applied to more affordable schools and schools that will give you good merit aid as a Canadian?

thanks alot, i really appreciate it!

umm, its not that my parents don’t have the money, they just don’t have it all in one account…what should I do?

Another int’l student had this same issue…

She just showed funds in several of her parents accts.

My bad, when you said they had “a little” money in each account I took it to mean that they didn’t have the total needed…
