Paying for UCLA or USC?

How do you pay for UCLA and USC? I'm out of state too. Thanks! (:

You won’t get much aid from UCLA. Many out-of-state students get admitted to UCLA who simply don’t go because it’s far too expensive. You’d have better luck with USC, although i’m not familiar enough with their university to give you information about how their financial aid works.

if your need based on BOTH the FAFSA and CSS profile is on the low end, you will get a lot of money in the form of grants (not loans!) from USC. now, keep in mind that you will get some loans as well but the vast majority of your finaid package will be grants.

if you are on the higher end in the income scale, then both should have fairly comparable costs from an OOS perspective.

Being OOS for USC is irrelevant. It’s a private.

Although USC does give some merit for VERY high stats, it is mostly a needs-based aid school. Have you run the NPC on the website? How much will your family pay?

being OOS for UCLA is a big deal. Generally, expect to pay most costs yourself. If you can’t, then cross it off your list.
